Navy Dads

Writing my son, Andrew for the 4th time. He has written us twice and called once. Waiting for another phone call. His PIR 7/20/12. Pretty excited, because his sister is getting married on the 28th of July. God has given us a great gift by allowing us the opportunity to witness two amazing life changing events. Andrew is Starboard Watch and will be heading to Pensacola for IT. Does anyone know what there is to do in Pensacola, and when we would be able to visit him?

Dave,

When your son gets his school schedule with usually weekends off, you can visit him (He has to get permission from his CO of course). My daughter finished A school a few weeks ago. I visited her in Pensacola. (I drove 10 hours each way, for I live in South Florida). There is plenty for your sailor to do. They have a movie theater, bowling lanes, a NEX (Navy Exchange), golf course, tennis courts, churches, etc. He can rent a boat for the day to go out in the bay.  He has to get to Phase three Liberty in order to have you visit him on the weekend. You can visit him by staying on base at the Navy Lodge. Very clean and reasonable rates. You can also go into downtown Pensacola. Check Urban Spoon to find the latest listings on restaurants. I hope this helps.

Thanks! I live in Minnesota, only 1,300 miles or 22 hours away. We'll have to make sure of the time available before we go.

There is lots to do in Pensacola. One of the "Must sees", is the National Naval Aviation Museum on base. You only need to follow the signs and have your ID ready to show the guard at the gate. When we went, all they wanted was to see the drivers ID. Then just follow the signs to the museum. Plan a day there.

Also, Pensacola beach is a most beautiful place. Sometimes you can spot the dolphins playing just off the shore. Many fine restaurants along the beach as well. We went to "Peg Leg Pete's".

Yes sir, see you there.

My son is doing the exact same things. His ship is 225
Strange as his PIR is also 7-20 he is going to Pensacola and he is the port watch.

Sounds like I'll see you on 7-20?

Just got another letter. He says that his division just took a big hit. The Chief has fired or reassigned everyone. He's back to Port Watch. He says he should get more sleep.
