Navy Dads

Received a letter from my son yesterday informing me he has been SIQ for the past 5 days, (he never gets sick) with an upper respritory infection and is on 7 prescribed medications. His concern is that he may be ASMQ'd, and that he says, would change his PIR date from 16 September, to a week or two later.

Can someone please tell me what ASMQ'd means?

Also how or when can we find out when his PIR would be if he was held back?

Do they hold him getting sick against him?

Up until he got sick he was doing great as was his ship/division. He does not know when he will find out anything and it is driving him bonkers.

it's ASMO: ASsignment Memorandum Orders. Mostly issued in boot camp to set a recruit back in training due to poor performance or medical or dental issues

If he gets ASMOed, his PIR date will change. They will let him tell you as soon as it happens because they realize you need to make arrangements to attend PIR.

Should this happen, all you can do is encourage him to do his best. Technically, the Navy won't hold it against him BUT he will move to a new ship/division and have to start over fitting in and making friends. Just do your best to keep his spirits up and before you know it PIR will be here.

My son's PIR was 6-1/2 months ago . . . feels much longer than that. Right now, he's half way around the world and won't be back until December.
