Navy Dads

Thank you all for the information and words of support and encouragement - it's great to have a place to go for help and guidance for what's to come.  My Son Nick left today for bootcamp.  I didn't think it would be as hard as it was.  My Son is older than most Recruits - he's 26, and I went through Marine bootcamp back in 1976.  One would think this should be no big deal for me, but it is.  This definitely has much more impact on me than when he left for college.  Anyway, again, Thank You All.

Mike, my son Tommy also went today...I didn't think it would be as hard as it is but it will be the best thing for him. Your son being older should help him I am sure. Keep active on here, I've learned a lot of what to expect. Good luck to all as they start out.

Thanks Dave,  I'll take your advice and keep active - I know that will help me.  I'm sure once Nick and Tommy get there they'll both do fine,  Thanks and Good Luck back to you and yours.

Thanks Steve - I appreciate your kind words.  I'm very glad and we're very lucky to have such good kids (men) in this day and age.  I'm looking forward to meeting many new friends on this site.  Best of Luck to you and yours and congratulations to your son for all his fine work.

Its funny how the situation changes. My son graduates next week 9/16. I  went through bootcamp in 1974,(hollywood marine). I know this is the best for my son, I needed it, he needed it. We look forward to seeing him at PIR. Keep lettters and words of support to him and time will pass quick. good luck

Hi Mike - I know how you feel - my son left on Friday night and got there early Saturday morning (9/3/11).

I got that short call (really short) from him about 4:55am that he was there ok. But, I know that they will all do great, they're men now, and all of them are making huge commitments to our country. I follow this site regularly and everybody's been a big help and provide great info. I just got the package with his belongings today, no letter yet, but I know it'll be here and I'm ready to send letters to him to keep up his support & encouragement. So, just be tuff like all of our sons/daughters and before we know it they'll be out on the fleet. Good luck to Nick, you and all the men and women that are supporting our country.

Received my short call last nite..one problem, Tom called my cell phone and the ringer wasn't on...no message or anything. I am sure its happened before and I know he's safe and there. good luck to all our future sailors!!!

Thanks Mark,  The support I'm getting here is really great - Thanks for your help.  I'm already getting letters ready to send to Nick whenever I get his Ship and Division numbers.  I was also a Hollywood Marine (I still have the sunglasses they issued me in bootcamp around here somewhere...)

Thanks Bill, Good Luck to you and your Son.  I'm new to this site but I must agree that the help and information here is great.  It's going to be a lot easier to giving Nick the support I need to with the help I'm getting from everyone.  I'm sure the phone call was much shorter than you both would have liked.  I remember when I called home from bootcamp.  The Drill Instructor told us to say "I here, I'm fine and I have to go" - I don't think the call was 30 seconds long.  Being on the other side, I think getting the call will be much harder than making it - they keep you too busy to think about home very much.

Thanks again,

-Mike

Hi David,  Sorry that you missed Tom's call - I know you would have liked to have gotten his call but I'm sure you'll be getting his letter soon.  Yes, Good Luck to All Our Future Sailors!!!
