In about two hours, I'll be waking up my son, Cole, and driving him over to the recruiting office. He's swearing in this morning and then off to GL.

Oh my goodness, well we're out on the west coast. My guess is that it's a timed delivery type of thing. You should definitely get that form letter in like real soon!...
To help others with the timing of things, the form letter arrived on 11/22, almost a full two weeks from his departure date. We received the first real letter on 11/28. He was able to write that letter on Thanksgiving day. Otherwise, it might have been three days later, assuming a normal Sunday routine.
Here's the latest, in my hope that it will help others.
My son arrived at GL late on 11/9. His division took a long time to finally form up. There were only about 35 of them for about a week before their numbers grew to almost 100. His first phone call wasn't until 12/7. Some of the other SR's in his division didn't get to call out that day because of other admistrative activities, especially dental work. They all did eventually get to make calls before the end of that week, though. Still, it was four weeks after they arrived.
As I mention in my previous post, we received his form letter, and hence his address, on 11/22. We immediately began writing letters which he didn't begin receiving until over a week later. The flow of mail has been a bit more regular after that first week of mail.
Because of their PIR date, his division is able to be "adopted" for Christmas day liberty. There are a handful of families heading to Chicago to do that; ours isn't one of them. We'll settle for PIR on 1/13.
My son did tell me that his division will be in tremendous physical shape because they don't know how to keep their mouths shut.
Well, that roller coaster ride is close to its end. I've never been on a coaster where there's that 'clankety-clanking' part that pulls the train to the top somewhere near the end, but that's where we are today. We expect the 'I'm a sailor' call later today and PIR is on Friday.
We're looking forward to the short time we'll spend with him on Friday before he ships out very early Saturday morning for a flight to Charleston. Thanks to everyone here for their support and kind words. I'll pop in and let you know how things go at his PIR.
Today, I send my son away to become a man. He follows his Father and Grandfather to Boot Camp in Great Lakes. Words can never convey the feelings. Love, Pride, and Respect are the closest they can come. When you're good....Luck will follow. Go Navy !!!!
