ESOs should review all examination ratings being administered, and advise candidates prior to examination day if they will be unable to supply any of the following items:
(1) Bearing Rate Slide Rule FT, STS
(2) Bearing Rate Computer FT, STS
(3) Nautical Slide Rule ETV, FT, MN
(4) Speed Solver FT, STS
(5) Towed Array D/E Range Finder STS
(6) Parallel ruler, Drafting Divider, and ETV, FT, MN
at least three sheets of DMA Form 50590 OS, QM
(Maneuvering Board Paper)
Notes:
1. Any candidate may use log tables and slide rules. Musicians are NOT authorized to use musical slide rules.
2. All exam candidates may use solar or battery-powered, hand-held electronic calculators of any key configuration as long as they are capable of displaying only a single line of numeric and mathematical characters. Graphing calculators, calculators capable of displaying running text, mini-laptop computers, and similar items supporting information storage and retrieval are NOT authorized. Calculators are for mathematical use only and NOT for retrieving or storing text. Each candidate must provide a calculator for his/her own use. Exam proctors should satisfy themselves that the calculator is for mathematical use only and will NOT be used for retrieving or storing data.
3. Seabee calculator use: Seabee ratings are NOT authorized to use preprogrammed construction, electrician, plumbing and other calculators designed specifically for tradesman use (such as the Construction Master IV). Engineering Aide (EA) candidates are authorized to use general scientific calculators that are not programmable.
4. No other material or instruments will be brought into the examining room. PROCTORS SHOULD PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO ENSURE THAT THERE ARE NO PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES BROUGHT INTO THE EXAMINATION AREA (i.e., Cell Phone, Smart Phone, Tablet, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), etc.).
5. DUE TO ADVANCES IN TECHNOLOGY, THERE ARE MANY WRISTWATCHES THAT HAVE PICTURE TAKING CAPABILITY. FOR THIS REASON, WRISTWATCHES ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO BE WORN DURING THE EXAMINATION. CANDIDATES SHOULD BE BRIEFED TO REMOVE THEIR WRISTWATCH AND PLACE IT IN THEIR POCKET UNTIL AFTER THE EXAMINATION. ENSURE THAT CANDIDATES ARE REMINDED OF THE TIME REMAINING AT ONE-HOUR INCREMENTS, AND 10 MINUTES BEFORE TIME EXPIRES.
6. THE ONLY ITEMS CANDIDATES SHOULD HAVE IN THEIR POSSESSION ARE THE MATERIALS PROVIDED TO THEM AND ANY MATERIALS LISTED ABOVE.
