Let's Have a Clearing House for Care Package Ideas and Addresses

Many of us send care packages to our sons and daughters scattered around the globe. Often we would like to do more....

I thought we might use this space to develop ideas of things to ship to our troops protecting our freedom. Also we might look at setting up a list of addresses that we could use to ship to. It is Girl Scout cookie season and I know one of our members sends cookies to troops all over. I've sent phone cards to combat areas through the USO so our soldiers could call home for the holidays. I'm sure there are hundreds of ideas out there....lets support our troops by sending them the things from home they miss and to let them them know that America supports them.

I've had some requests for the care package label template:

Updated (7 Sept 2013)!! here is the Microsoft Publisher template- Avery 5163 label:

I was totally lucky...all the employees at both post offices I used have a super appreciation for our troops and went out of their way to help me out...even when I was shipping things like picante sauce -- not supposed to ship liquids or things in glass...

Yup.. Paul.. we sent a ton of packages out via our church, and I was the poor sap that had to fill all those out.... and the lady at the USPS hates her job.. and fine toothed the forms.. and made me redo about 15 of them b/c of one thing or another.... But I have 15 boxes all laid out and my dec forms all "filled" out.. ;) hehehehe

don't forget...if addressed to an FPO...even if in the US, that you need a customs declaration form when you ship

Navy Dad Mark - those made it :) I will have to "add" that to my list for my son. Did you use the standard box from USPS? or??

This stuff could be called gourmet jerkey, truly is the best i have ever had. Rather pricey but a real treat. I had to pry this out of a friend that always claimed he made it, ask him for his recipe so I could send some to the Abe and he caved in and told me where it comes from.

here is a link to a site that has some good jerkey recipes or take the easy way out and buy their jerkey, they will ship directly to military addresses.

Ok cool...beef jerky, huh? I have a dehydrater (<---sp?) in the family. Do you have any good recipes? Throwback Mt Dews...is that when they put the sugar back in to the mix instead of the dreaded HFCS, blech!

you know Richard...I starting sending the boxes to not only Eric and Kat, but to their departments or shops as well...then I branched out and started sending to corresponding departments/shops on other carriers as well.....then I bought the $300 dollars worth of Girl Scout cookies and did the same. You get carried away and don't know when to stop!!!

The most requested item.....by far.....jerky !! If you read some of the way-old posts, Paige was making tons of jerky and sending it to Iraq and Af'stan too....the troops loved it!!

ok...I see it is going to have to be the preservatives then. Ok, Thank You for the info. Once I get back to work, I am going to be getting a box together for him and whoever he might want to share with; especially, now that they are putting out today.

GODSPEED to our sailors!

GOD bless our republic!
