Let's Have a Clearing House for Care Package Ideas and Addresses

Many of us send care packages to our sons and daughters scattered around the globe. Often we would like to do more....

I thought we might use this space to develop ideas of things to ship to our troops protecting our freedom. Also we might look at setting up a list of addresses that we could use to ship to. It is Girl Scout cookie season and I know one of our members sends cookies to troops all over. I've sent phone cards to combat areas through the USO so our soldiers could call home for the holidays. I'm sure there are hundreds of ideas out there....lets support our troops by sending them the things from home they miss and to let them them know that America supports them.

I've had some requests for the care package label template:

I'm going to put the details in here later today about the package. I shipped it out last Friday, so it has been a little over a week. I'm guessing a couple more and they'll have it.

From experience in sending packages to Eric on the Roosevlet it can take two to three weeks for packages to get there....more usual was the three week delay than anything else.

Yesterday, one of my co-workers who's daughter is a Girl Scout approached me and offered to donate 30 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to send to our sailors and troops. I, of course, graciously accepted the donation and plan to take some cookies with me when I go to San Diego Mother's Day weekend to see Billy. I figured there would be plenty of sailors throughout the barracks who will enjoy having the treats. Whatever is left that I cannot fit into my suitcase will be put into care packages that I mail out to others. I'm mentioning this to the members of this group because it confirms that if you make your friends, family, and co-workers aware of your involvement with the care packages, you will more than likely be approached yourselves by someone who would like to make a contribution in some way. So, my suggestion is to "spread the word".

Sorry for being missing in action this weekend. My Sailor is at home and will leave tomorrow afternoon. We have been enjoying our time with him. I wanted every one to know that the packages went out Friday, a little later then expected but finally are on there way to the Bainbridge. It was awesome being able to do this and I thank every one for making this happen. We sent 28 boxes in all, packed to the brim with goodies. Mon or Tues I'll post everything we sent in the group. It was "crazy" rushed getting the boxes out Friday and I didn't get pics of the boxes with the labels but they looked great. Thanks again for every one's support with this. The Bainbridge Sailors will be thrilled when they receive our Thank You.

I want to thank everyone for the support and success of this fundraiser. We have raised $1,160.00 in just 7 days. That is awesome! I have purchased $800 in goodies and the shipping will cost around $400. I'm hoping to get a break on the shipping cost through the local Navy recruiters office if possible, they will contact me in the morning. If we can save money on shipping then we will add the extra money to more goodies for the Bainbridge Sailors. I've contacted Commander Frank Castellano of the Bainbridge and he thanks every one for doing this for his Sailors. He says the crew will appreciate everything we send.
Again thank you for every one's support, prayers, and donations.
Here are a couple of pics of what were sending. This is in the kitchen at my business. The kitchen has been closed since Sunday. LOL HooYah! Go Navy!

well I'm sorry to say but the bainbridge crew is goint o have to do with a package from the sullivan family in Shawnee, Ok. when my wife was taking the cakes to the post office to ship off. our dog ran into her and knocked the packages out of her hands breaking the glasses. We regret not getting this package to our fine sailors, hopefully there will be another shipment & we can get in on it.
