Let's Have a Clearing House for Care Package Ideas and Addresses

Many of us send care packages to our sons and daughters scattered around the globe. Often we would like to do more....

I thought we might use this space to develop ideas of things to ship to our troops protecting our freedom. Also we might look at setting up a list of addresses that we could use to ship to. It is Girl Scout cookie season and I know one of our members sends cookies to troops all over. I've sent phone cards to combat areas through the USO so our soldiers could call home for the holidays. I'm sure there are hundreds of ideas out there....lets support our troops by sending them the things from home they miss and to let them them know that America supports them.

I've had some requests for the care package label template:

Donations Update:

I want to thank everyone for their generosity and donations yesterday. We are off to a fantastic start. We have raised $570 in our first day. I encourage everyone to spread the word about the care package we're putting together here at Navy Dads for the Sailors on the Bainbridge. Welcome them all to stop by ND's to help support in this cause.

I know these Sailors will appreciate our care packages that we will be sending out. They can not be thanked enough for freeing Capt. Phillips and for his safe return home. We want them to know that they have our support and Americans are proud of their accomplishment.

HooYah! Go Navy!

Thanks Again,
NavyDads Creator, EG

Lauren,
yes print any label you would like. I'm checking tomorrow to see if I can get some labels done in time. The packages I'm sending out will say something like, The Navy Dads & Navy Moms on NavyDads.com thank you. It will change. I cannot print n4m's labels because I'm not affiliated with them. If you are a member of n4m's I'm sure you can represent them. I just can't do it for fear of legal issues. I'll post todays totals we've received in this group first thing in the morning. Thanks to every one who has been a part of this. These Sailors will be happy to know that so many Navy parents are supporting them. I can't wait until we get these packages off to them.

Lauren- these are the stickers mentioned (CLICK IT) , but I'm putting that project on hold for a while due to my Tiger Cruise this week and Eric's leave. If there is demand, I'll see how finances are and may print more in a coupel of weeks to send out

Here is the recipe for cake in a jar that my daughter-in-law sent me . I have not made this recipe yet, but I haven't really had anyone to send it to yet.
I have heard lots of good things about it though!! Let me know if it works well!
--Sage

INGREDIENTS
1 (18.25 ounce) package any cake mix or homemade
8 straight-sided wide-mouth pint canning jars with lids and rings

NOTE: It took me 2 boxes of cake mix to get 8 jars !!!!

DIRECTIONS
1. Prepare the cake according to package instructions, or use any cake recipe.

2.In pint size, wide-mouth jars, put 1 cup of batter( I fill jar half way) in each greased jar. Make sure to keep the rims of the jars clean. Put in preheated oven 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Place jars on a cookie sheet to keep from tipping over while baking.

3. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into cake comes out clean.

4. While they are baking, have your jar lids boiling in a pan of water. When the cake is done, take one jar out at a time and add the hot lid and screw on your jar ring and let set and cool.

5. It will seal as it cools. Place the jars on the counter and listen for them to 'ping' as they seal. If you miss the 'ping', wait until they are completely cool and press on the top of the lid. If it doesn't move at all, it's sealed.

6. After it cools it will pull away from the jar and when you are ready to eat, open and pop out the cake and enjoy.

7. Unsealed jars should be stored in the refrigerator and eaten within 2 weeks. Sealed jars may be stored in a freezer.

If mailing to your sailor make sure to wrap well. bubble wrap, newspaper even clothes work. Decorate the jars for the occasion. Put the frosting and other deco. in the box. You may want to throw in plastic fork. Dont forget to send extra they LOVE TO SHARE the goodies from home!!!!
