Let's Have a Clearing House for Care Package Ideas and Addresses

Many of us send care packages to our sons and daughters scattered around the globe. Often we would like to do more....

I thought we might use this space to develop ideas of things to ship to our troops protecting our freedom. Also we might look at setting up a list of addresses that we could use to ship to. It is Girl Scout cookie season and I know one of our members sends cookies to troops all over. I've sent phone cards to combat areas through the USO so our soldiers could call home for the holidays. I'm sure there are hundreds of ideas out there....lets support our troops by sending them the things from home they miss and to let them them know that America supports them.

I've had some requests for the care package label template:

It's not about a dollar amount Lauren, anything you want to give. It could be 5 dollars. We understand that the economy is in the toilet right now and can only imagine how tough it can be on a single mom. Anything you would like to do to send in the care package. It could be a letter thanking them. I'll go ahead and volunteer Paul and myself to head this up to get the package together to send.

I would love to help , but being a single mom I can't do a $100 right now. and remember to ship books and magazines alone MUCH cheaper for book rate.
So how can I help for the USS Bainbridge

Paul that's $200 already. On our way! It gave me goosebumps when the news broke today. I'm so proud of our Navy Sailors.

Okay, I have an idea. We have a Sailor's dad on our site, Bob, Andy's dad. Andy is aboard the USS Bainbridge which as everyone knows freed Capt. Phillips today. I know we can't thank them all aboard the Bainbridge but I figured we could all come together and come up with an idea to send something to Andy's department to let them know that we at NavyDads.com are proud of what they have done for Capt. Phillips and his family. Something like cookies or pre paid phone cards to call home, something. Let me know what everyone thinks and post suggestions of what we can send them. I'm in for a 100 dollars of whatever we send. Post suggestions and ideas in the care packages for our troops group. I think we should honor Andy and his shipmates for their Heroic involvement in this situation. We are proud to have a Sailor aboard the Bainbridge and I would love to send them a thank you care package.

Tony-- I always use the flat-rate large boxes from the P.O. They are $11.95 to ship and I would usually have a couple books and magazines, some CD's and about 3 bottles picante sauce and odds and ends to Eric. If I shipped lots of magazines I always told him to spread them around the shop and berthing/rec areas for others to read...likewise with books always told Eric and Kat to read and them donate to the ship's library. So it is pretty dependant on you....regardless of what I shipped to Eric I would always through in a recent 4x4 mag and a bike/American Iron-type mag. Also Rolling Stone is a real fav............

I was thinking about donating some light reading - namely comics. How many would go in a box? For that matter, how much of anything should go in a box?

Thanks in advance,
Tony

EG, I also appreciate the offer. While searching for a jerky recipe I found many using venison. The troops will love it.
