Let's Have a Clearing House for Care Package Ideas and Addresses

Many of us send care packages to our sons and daughters scattered around the globe. Often we would like to do more....

I thought we might use this space to develop ideas of things to ship to our troops protecting our freedom. Also we might look at setting up a list of addresses that we could use to ship to. It is Girl Scout cookie season and I know one of our members sends cookies to troops all over. I've sent phone cards to combat areas through the USO so our soldiers could call home for the holidays. I'm sure there are hundreds of ideas out there....lets support our troops by sending them the things from home they miss and to let them them know that America supports them.

I've had some requests for the care package label template:

EG, thank you for your very generous offer. I will gladly accept if it is not too much trouble for you. I've never used deer meat to make jerky, but I tried some once that a co-worker made. That jerky was the best I had ever tasted!! I'll be looking forward to your next hunting season!

Well, I'm glad to have some jerky makers on here. Paige I almost offered you some deer meat this year to make some jerky but didn't what to overwhelm you with work. So this is to Tony and you, this next hunting season I can send you all the deer meat that you both could want. Between my deer camp and friends I'm sure we could send plenty of meat to make jerky for the troops. For some reason us Rednecks in the south love to deer hunt, only problem is we don't have enough freezer space to store all the meat. My middle son has gotten really good at putting bucks in the truck. LOL So if you guys want, I can figure out how to send plenty of it to you next season to make jerky if you want.

This is a photo of the Sailors and Marines who have been receiving care packages. The picture was sent to me as a thank you and expression of appreciation.

ran across a paper article about the local Girl Scout council's program called Troop to Troop where they sell cookies by the case and send to the troops somewhere. They will take orders until March 23rd and have a link here to the order form if you are intererested in purchasing some.

Paul, thank you for sharing your message with us. I have also come to realize just how important it is to our military men and women to receive these care packages. It is heart warming to me to receive these messages expressing their appreciation and graditude and requests to have more sent to them. I decided to set myself a monthly financial budget specifically for care packages and I have made it my personal goal to send those requested items and more (when I'm able) every month. I know those who receive the packages are sincerely grateful and I am rewarded 10 fold by just knowing that.

When you get a message like this it reminds a person why it's so important that we send out these packages:

Thanks for the cookies you sent my Media folks aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). They were gone within an hour! It meant a lot to all of us to know someone is thinking about those Sailors deployed all over the world. We were very appreciative of this unexpected but much welcomed treat! Take care...

Sincerely,
Rick Chernitzer, LTJG, USN
Media Officer

A Bravo Zulu to Paige for taking her time to make jerkey and send care packages to the boots on the ground....we take many thing for granted in our cushioned lives here and this is a reminder about how little things can brighten the day for those serving in distant lands. I hope all members of NavyDads take a moment to reflect on those serving and find some way to send something to a sailor, soldier or airman to say "thanks...we are thinking about you!" Paul
