Let's Have a Clearing House for Care Package Ideas and Addresses

Many of us send care packages to our sons and daughters scattered around the globe. Often we would like to do more....

I thought we might use this space to develop ideas of things to ship to our troops protecting our freedom. Also we might look at setting up a list of addresses that we could use to ship to. It is Girl Scout cookie season and I know one of our members sends cookies to troops all over. I've sent phone cards to combat areas through the USO so our soldiers could call home for the holidays. I'm sure there are hundreds of ideas out there....lets support our troops by sending them the things from home they miss and to let them them know that America supports them.

I've had some requests for the care package label template:

Cookie Update-- 3 packages have gone out with 8 boxes of Girl Scout cookies in each. Think I can get three more packages made up out of the 48 boxes I bought.....I've got some ideas of where the next ones will be sent!!

A reminder EG- my offer of a donation or "seed money" for this kind of thing still holds...you should not have to shoulder the entire burden of this kind of thing alone as we are Navydads Family !

Thanks for the advice Ted. If you have knowledge in this area then I would love to talk to you about it. I have a lot on my plate right now with work, the site, the coming store, etc but a Navy Dads Foundation will be in our future. Not enough hours in a day. I'm use to giving money to charity's not running one so all the input I can get on doing one right would be huge. I'm thinking of making it a private foundation instead of a public charity. What are your thoughts on this? I want all the money to go to the Sailors not for the foundation to run. The only expense I have come up with so far is an accountant's monthly charge to keep the books ( that will be around 125 dollars per month ). Other than that I want every dollar raised or donated to go 100% to the Sailors. I'm hoping the store will profit enough to pay the bills for this site and if not I will gladly take it out of my pocket like I've been doing. So if you want to email or phone me, I'm willing to listen to the insight you have in this area.

Outstanding Paige! I know a bunch of the troops will appreciate your efforts....we might not get any members from all these efforts, but at least some of our military will get a connection to home and THAT is what counts! Thanks for all your hard work!

Thats great Paul!!! And I know the Girl Scouts really appreciate all the support too. Between the two of us, our troops and sailors will be getting 78 boxes of cookies. I made jerky this weekend until I was all "dehydrated out". I managed to get 29 bags made up to send out with the cookies. I believe the P.O. is closed today because of the holiday, so my plan is to try and get everything shipped out tomorrow.

OK-- got $192 worth of Girl Scout cookies arriving this week...each box will get a NavyDads sticker. Am sending a case each (12 boxes) to the media department on the Lincoln and Roosevelt...someone has to pick up on this NavyDads thing! The other two cases will go to my sailors for distribution...again each with a sticker! Now---shipping will kill the wallet!!!

Thanks Paul for creating the group!!! It's great to see everyones enthusiasm about it! I have been sending care packages out to a few different sailors these last few months. I've been sending snack food items, homemade goodies, DVD movies, gift cards, and the most poplular and in big demand is my homemade jerky. There are several members of a Security Detachment in Kuwait going through the jerky faster than I can make it. I package it using a seal-a-meal so it stays fresh for the shipping duration. I thought the Girl Scout cookies would be a good idea because they are already packaged for shipping purposes. And most importantly they are an "American Favorite" that we can only get once a year.
I'm so glad to see the overwhelming support this group already has.
Thanks guys!!!!
