Let's Have a Clearing House for Care Package Ideas and Addresses

Many of us send care packages to our sons and daughters scattered around the globe. Often we would like to do more....

I thought we might use this space to develop ideas of things to ship to our troops protecting our freedom. Also we might look at setting up a list of addresses that we could use to ship to. It is Girl Scout cookie season and I know one of our members sends cookies to troops all over. I've sent phone cards to combat areas through the USO so our soldiers could call home for the holidays. I'm sure there are hundreds of ideas out there....lets support our troops by sending them the things from home they miss and to let them them know that America supports them.

I've had some requests for the care package label template:

Updated (7 Sept 2013)!! here is the Microsoft Publisher template- Avery 5163 label:

Thanks Paul, Gary, and Terry. This is a great start to the good deeds we will do through this site. But I have run out of gas and I'm headed for the rack. Talk to you soon and Paul thanks for creating this group. Great Idea! I can't wait to see what we come up with.

We've got recruiters as members, and some retired Navy folk....perhaps some messages to each asking how to start and some contact names/numbers?

Don't forget we each have two senators and a congressman.........

Gary it is definitely something to explore and a great idea. I've tryed to contact the Navy a few times through different places to no success. That might be the hardest obstacle, finding a way to contact the powers that be.

I would like to research my idea if possible. I know a magazine and book distribution center and a box manufacturing company in my home town. The distribution center collects and discards out dated material monthly. If it could be shown these materials were available would it be possible to send these items not to one shop but to as many ships in the NAVY as possible.

I realize this could be an enormous undertaking but if it could be done with the consent and cooperation of the NAVY, would it be a good idea. When I say consent and cooperation I mean contacting the powers that be to gain consent and input from them on how to best fulfill the task.. The Navy is a rather large organization and has many sailors and ships. Imagine a box shipped to each ship in the NAVY from NAVY DADS.com and donated by whom ever. Now am I too far in left field? Tell me and I will try to dream smaller.

Let's see.....translate to computer 101.......if you have Microsoft Publisher as part of Microsoft Office I can send the file to print those labels if you like. They fit on Avery label number 5163 which you can prolly find at Office Depot or Office Max or Staples.....we gotta get you more computer literate EG!!!!!!!!

I saw it....and kept on reading!!!! LOL

BTW all.......I did that in Publisher as it was easier with the graphic than was Word. If anyone wants the Publisher file for an Avery 5163 label let me know and I'll send it to you to use if you like!
