Let's Have a Clearing House for Care Package Ideas and Addresses

Many of us send care packages to our sons and daughters scattered around the globe. Often we would like to do more....

I thought we might use this space to develop ideas of things to ship to our troops protecting our freedom. Also we might look at setting up a list of addresses that we could use to ship to. It is Girl Scout cookie season and I know one of our members sends cookies to troops all over. I've sent phone cards to combat areas through the USO so our soldiers could call home for the holidays. I'm sure there are hundreds of ideas out there....lets support our troops by sending them the things from home they miss and to let them them know that America supports them.

I've had some requests for the care package label template:

My last care package took two weeks and four days to get to IKE.  Still missing the original package...

We just shopped and I seen MIO,don't know much about it but it's easy to use and ship, also as you pack you can scatter small styrofoam peanuts in amoung items helps keep them safe and in one piece.

I dont know if your sailor has axcess to a microwave or not but single popcorn, single serve soup, macaroni & cheese, and ramen noodles.are a hit with son, also beef jerky, single serve kool-aid or something like it.A bowl and silverware(plastic or metal),performance underwear (under armor or the like),its costly but aren't our sailors wirth it.There are websites that sell other types of dried meat that our son loved.

Allen,  Funny you should ask that.  I went yesterday after work.  I got one of those fans from Target, so I had to fill the box ya know.  Its definitely something I enjoy doing for him.

Thanks for the great ideas.  Kris, my son is also on the JCS.  This will be his first deployment though as he just joined the ship on March 3.

Hello - I wont read back to see if any of these are on here but my son is on the JCS and he always stresses..."We dont have alot room so keep that in mind & if I don't want it I'll give it away".

ideas: for cookies..wrap them back to back tightly in saranwrap - it helps keep them solid (too many cookies arrived looking like granola before I discovered this) I've also read mail in a pringles tube but that didn't work for me.

he asked for soft toilet paper - he shared it with his berthing area, he liked the packages of cottenelle wipes & if you can still find the Purex 3-1 Laundry sheets they work excellent for the ship...not only is everything you need in one sheet they also smell good which helps since there are like 40+ guys in the berthing area.

technically they aren't supposed to have food in their lockers so he wanted very limited of that. (he's a bythbook guy) he likes the gatorade drink mix singles, gum & sports magazines.

this will be his 2nd long deployment in less than 6 months so hopefully when he comes home on leave he'll have more sugestions.

Amber, GREAT idea...I TOO have been hearing how incredibly HOT it is there...

My husband has been telling me that its Hot in berthing and that he wishes that he had a fan. I found one at target that plugs into the usb port on his tablet (would work for laptop also)...the cord is duel purpose and will also plug into a wall plug in It was only $10.00 at target, and is small enough that it won't take up much space because it folds flat.

Wanted to update everyone, my son said the magnet picture frames I sent didn't work on the lockers or racks.  I don't know if they can use tape or those double sided stcky squares.  Anyone know what works best?

Thumb print cookie update...My son said they were all broken up when he received them.  Tasted the same he said.  I am going BACK to the drawing board on packaging. :-/  Only 2 boxes of 3 made it.  I also need to say, don't send footballs... lol  Seems like stupid idea anyway, I realize, but I saw REAL pictures of guys playing catch in the hangar bays.  I thought it was a great idea.  My son was QUICK to write and ask me, "What do you want me to do with the FOOTBALL?"  Space is limited...  Live and learn, RIGHT?
