Many of us send care packages to our sons and daughters scattered around the globe. Often we would like to do more....
I thought we might use this space to develop ideas of things to ship to our troops protecting our freedom. Also we might look at setting up a list of addresses that we could use to ship to. It is Girl Scout cookie season and I know one of our members sends cookies to troops all over. I've sent phone cards to combat areas through the USO so our soldiers could call home for the holidays. I'm sure there are hundreds of ideas out there....lets support our troops by sending them the things from home they miss and to let them them know that America supports them.
I've had some requests for the care package label template:
Updated (7 Sept 2013)!! here is the Microsoft Publisher template- Avery 5163 label:

I agree, I know that we ship to combat hospitals, but only with permission of the hospitals, and they tell us their needs at the time. One month it was pillows. one month it was t shirts...etc. Combat hospitals have very limited space so cant be storing anything. I have learned that I don't send anything anywhere without getting permission.....and we ship a lot of stuff .....lol........I applaud you Ron ....there are many troops that never even receive a letter
We get to go shopping for a care package today. Is there something WRONG that I would look FORWARD to that all week?
Thanks Forrest..I do have socks, but I will add the workout clothes...that is a great idea...thanks a lot.. :) ...I am not sure if my cards work international or not, I do know of a soldier that used them from afghanistan, but he had 800 service from his desk phone on the base, so he used them from there... :)
There are International Phone Cards at Target that work really well. I actually just e-mailed the information on the back of the card to my son so that I can recharge the card from here as needed.
I also got a request from him for socks and workout clothes, so those may be things you want to add to your care packages. Amber warned me about that :-)
Thanks Ron
The ones I am using right now are 30 minutes pre paid cards that cost $1...I get them from the place that donates some to me as well...they take 10 minutes for a connection fee from a pay phone, so they get 20 minutes for each call...some of the other cards can take up to 30 minutes connection fee from a pay phone...I did some research on it and with a 500 minute card, if you make 10 calls 300 minutes will be used in connection fees alone..lol The place I get them usually donates about 500 a week to me...when I first started I didn't think I could even use that many, but now I am sending out between 10 and 20 sets a day...which is 90 to 180 cards every day...lol...but so far with them donating cards and I use all donations to purchase cards I haven't ran out yet...praise the lord..lol....I hope to keep this going for many years...:)
What kind of phone cards do you guys normally get? I saw some a while ago and really didn't know if they were the right ones.
Thanks Paul...:)
hey Ron- this link is to the Warrior Care page for Walter Reed- good place to start to find someone to talk to.....

Thanks Paul, and I will definitely be adding some calling cards..lol...and I have an address at walter reed for Medical Family Assistance..I wonder if that is still valid..??...maybe I will do a test letter first and see if they get that...:)...thanks for the heads up..
