Many of us send care packages to our sons and daughters scattered around the globe. Often we would like to do more....
I thought we might use this space to develop ideas of things to ship to our troops protecting our freedom. Also we might look at setting up a list of addresses that we could use to ship to. It is Girl Scout cookie season and I know one of our members sends cookies to troops all over. I've sent phone cards to combat areas through the USO so our soldiers could call home for the holidays. I'm sure there are hundreds of ideas out there....lets support our troops by sending them the things from home they miss and to let them them know that America supports them.
I've had some requests for the care package label template:

Thank you Lauren and fishdad.
Yes Forrest. You will need a customs form. The Post Office will have those as well as the boxes for you and they will show you how to fill one out. Flat rate applies regardless of weight. Squeeze in as much as you can. We've found that it takes anywhere from 2.5 weeks to 6 weeks to reach Japan. Longer if they are out.
Thank you guys. Will I need a customs form if I am shipping to a ship?
My sailor is asking for food mainly, but also wants the latest DVD's. For some reason its wrong for there to be a movie out that he hasn't seen or doesn't own. I was concerned about how much room he had for storage, but he didn't seem to think it would be an issue. I am going to send cookies, and Amber gave me some tips on shipping, so that helped. I have a couple of questions:
Is it better to send 1 large box or 2 smaller ones? I'm not sure if he has access to a forklift... lol
ALso, does the package get there sooner by sending it priority mail? Since its an APO I thought maybe it would expedite it some.
we always get questions about what to send...these are great suggestions for those not coming up new ideas for packages......

I was just talking about what my husband was asking for in his care package..i dont know if this will help anyone but..boxers, haynes black socks (he is in the NAVY), gatorade drink mix, gummie worms, sunflower seeds, soft toilet paper, trail mix, magazines (cars, guns, trucks exc..) If they are from the same area..local newspapers. pictures from home, homemade cookies and brownies exc. When packaging home cooked items i was told put them in a ziplock baggie with a slice or two of bread then wrap in saran wrap and ziplock again... I hear the bread really helps keep it fresh!
also things like playing cards, yoyos, any kind of game that can take your mind off things for a bit.
Tonight we'll have volunteers helping to pack Care / Encouragement packages for Troops serving in Afghanistan, Guatemala, Ecuador, Japan, S. Korea, and 15 Bases State Side. We're expecting to ship at least 100 boxes tomorrow. It's always a blessing to see how much they enjoy doing this. One of my favorite parts is when everyone sits down and takes the time to write a personal letter of thanks and encouragement to each Troop. Most often, they end up writing through tears. But my absolute favorite part usually occurs weeks after we ship. That's when we begin to receive personal notes FROM the Troops. It's better than Christmas around here when that happens!
