They will get an initial clearance so they can badge up an attend school but that is not their final "top secret clearance", they will normally get that before they go to their next suty station but my duaghter did not get heres until she arrived at her duty station and was there a couple of weeks, her situation is a littloe differnet as she is on dry land no water anywhere near, that is all I will say.

When my son went in, they started his background checks in BC and finished prior to starting A school as he could not "badge up" to take his classes or even enter the building where he was training/working until he received his security clearences. He is a CTN rate, not sure if all of the rates are as strict though.

That is good info to know Sandman. Thanks!

Todd, we did get interviewed I think by the FBI, in any case the final clearance may not even happen until they graduate from A school or in some cases after they get to their first duty station, these are not well greased wheels all the time as you may have found out by now.

Thank you, Robert. Early on, our son had told us we would get interviewed, which I thought was odd. His last letter indicated all is well, so we'll be glad to see him next Friday!

Todd, I do not think the parents get interviewed. We did not. Yes, no news is good news. We heard nothing but everything turned out okay.

How long before PIR did you (parents) get interviewed? The agent has been around to our neighbors, son's friends, and his former employers. It is now just over a week until PIR and we have heard nothing. Hopefully that is good news?

Hello all, its been sometime since I have been on this site. My Sailor (son) is out in the fleet but that is all I can say. He is doing get and having a good time, but as stated above

-Don’t discuss current or future destinations/ ports of call/deployment bases .
-Don’t discuss current or future operations or missions.
-Don’t discuss current or future dates and times of exercises or missions.
-Don’t discuss readiness issues and numbers.
-Don’t discuss specific training equipment.
-Don’t discuss people’s names and operations.
-Don’t speculate about current or future operations.

It reminds me of the old WWII post of "loose lips sink ships"
Best of luck to all your sailors.

Meghan, you can google CTR and find out quite a bit about it generally. Some have mentioned places you can be stationed, among them Hawaii, Japan, Ft Meade Maryland, Texas, and even the middle east, they can be deployed. If he graduates in the top 2 or 3 in his class he will get first pick on the assignments that are available at the time. My daughter was 2nd in her class and got her pick......Don't expect to hear anything more than generalities about what he's seen or is doing, it is a highly classified field and from what I've heard a very lucrative field to be trained in for the civilian world.........
