Congrats to your son Joe, that school goes by quick once they get started. My daughter grabbed ahold of the program the whole way thru, but she told me that quite a few struggled. I guess like anything we all have our strength areas. She has her moms brain for math and I know that helps alot in this field. Japan was an option for her when orders came in so he may have an overseas choice also. She did say they've told her that ship duty is in everyones future, so at some point it looks like they'll be able to see some parts of the world.

It was funny, my daughter came home at Xmas time as she had just gotten to Pcola and hadn't started school yet. She was here at the house when a gal from the FBI came knocking at our door, she had some questions that could have easily been answered by our daughter, but she could not talk to her or even have her in the same room as we were being interviewed. As an aside, FT Meade is a good assignment. If your son has any inkling to progress in the field or work as a civilian in the field he may want to ask about it. My daughter graduated top of her class and was allowed to pick her assignment. She had recieved info in school that it was a good way to go. They are actually working for NSA, not the Navy, so it's a no brainer for quick switch to a nice high paying civilian job in the end. Google NSA careers and you'll see what I mean.............Rick

My daughter started BC in Oct. and they started checking on her within days, she was one of the lucky ones that was only at Pensicola for about a month when she got her badge. She started school the next week and that was only because they had a couple of people dropped at the last minute and she got their spot. She finished CTR school in May and is now at FT Mead. She is still not working in her field as polygraph needs to be done, and final checks. This is serious business are kids are involved with and nobody gets to see what they can't tell us about until they are cleared and triple checked. You can't even get near FT. Mead without a priliminary badge and then to get to work as a CTR you need your high level top secret badge. Fun stuff, but if they are good at their job they will have a great career ahead either in the Navy or civilian world...........Rick

My daughter got her clearance last week. She has been in Monterey since late March. The process started while she was in BC.

My sons background started around the the time he started BC. He even called home once to us and his gf to get more information so his background check could be finished. Shortly after he got to Corry he was "cleared/badged", was able to atleast do clean-up/gopher duties in/around the building(s) he is now working in. It might have been a bit easier since he had spent 4yrs in NJROTC and more than a 6 months in DEP, so they had plenty of time to work on it, as well as plenty of folks to talk to before he finally went activity to BC.

The OPM person (Office of Personnel Management) was in our neighborhood about a month ago. They even interviewed my wife and me. That was strange to be answering questions about our son's background, competence and integrity. We have no idea how long now before he gets word of classification. I think he told us once it would be mid-summer...but he was guessing.

They sent some investigators to our neighborhood and asked a lot of questions. One person said they asked if there was any cult activity or any reason my daughter could not be trusted with national security information. They never did come and talk to my wife or me.

My son had a privledge of becoming a Core Mentor. He greeted all the new sailors from bootcamp and started the transition of recruit to sailors and what was expected of them. He no longer has the position and was a little hurt as he enjoyed helping and guiding others. He also had the other activities required of him at the time. They are not allowed to attend school and work. So he was never bored.
