I did visit her twice in Pensacola. If you go, try to get the Navy lodge. If that's full try the Gateway inn both are at NAS Pensacola which is a beautiful location.

Oh yeah, forgot to add this. We didn't go to A school graduation, she told us it was no big deal (very short ceremony), and families aren't coming down for it. Not 100% sure if that's true but it's definitely not a big deal like PIR was. We didn't get to C school graduation either.

Hi Matt- I can't really help with your specific questions, but I do have some thoughts. My sailor is CTT, she had A school at NAS Pensacola and C school at Corry, this is back @ 3.5 years. I will ask her about the "dream sheet" this weekend and report back if I get any info. She also was one of the top in her class and she got verbal orders for the USS America LHA-6 while she was still at school in Pensacola. She was the first in her group, and some of the others got jealous and petty and even said some insults to her, but she is mentally tough as nails, and she didn't let it get her down at all. She didn't go directly into the fleet, she went from Pensacola to San Diego for more training, that was where the LHA-6 command was. Next, they all went to Mississippi where the LHA-6 was finishing up (it's brand new). They worked on the LHA-6 right there in the shipyard for a while, then went on the maiden voyage from Mississippi to San Diego, visiting our allied countries along the way, and transiting through the Straight of Magellan. So that is how it went for my sailor, and I will try to get more info specific to your questions this weekend.

Greetings CT Dads .. Have a question specific to CTR.. My Sailor is at Corry about 3/4 of the way through A school. He is doing well, not sure if he is top of his class but definitely in the 90s for an average at this point. I hear some of the other CT rates talking about a "dream sheet" and my sailor told me his instructor says there is no such thing for CTRs specifically. I get the different CT rates have different needs etc., so I can accept that, more just wondering about what people are seeing in general.. Considering OPSEC, what can any of you tell me about how often CTRs are just going to the fleet after A school, and how often are we seeing them get C school and which ones. He told me there are certain C schools he wants but has said besides how well he does A school, he has little control over which if any he could get. Also for planning purposes, we intend to go visit him over the weekend before his graduation, he mentioned he wasnt sure the grad date was solid, how often do they hold graduation for CTR A school on a date early or delayed from the announced graduation date?

Finally, where are you seeing CTRs getting for a first duty station?

I know most of my questions are looking for pretty specific info, just looking for what you have seen. If you feel posting the info is a violation, please feel free to PM me directly.

Thanks! Matt

Jeremy, can't help you on the San Antonio question, while our Son waited around Monterey for his language A Class to start (BTW he had a pretty good command of Spanish & was assigned another lingo) he had a pretty enjoyable time.  All kinds of volunteer community things to do which are encouraged.  After surviving the "winter vortex" of 2014, returning home to sunny CA and Monterey was a very welcome relief after Great Lakes.  BTW the DLI Monterey and the city especially are very nice places to be in limbo! Regardless, all the best to ou and your Daughter

It looks like our daughter will be learning Spanish.  I thought they had Spanish people to learn Spanish, but anywho...

She graduates bootcamp 10/30 and flies to Monterey 10/31, but class doesn't start until 2/16/16.  Stinks for her to be in limbo so long.  I've heard that NIOC San Antonio is where the Spanish language CTIs go. Does anyone have any info on that?

Thanks!

Our Daughter went to DFLIC to learn Chinese, it was a very intense 18 month course. The one thing she had going for her is that she had taken a couple of semester of Chinese while in college

My daughter went through the same training so I'll be able to give advice tips and have more info about their rate after your son get through Great Lakes and you are going to be blown away by PIR it's amazing. Good luck to your son, and you will find all sorts of info here that will help along the way. If you haven't already, sign up for Navy Dads group on facebook too

We're going up to PIR and my Mother-in-Law lives about 2 hours east of Pensacola. Even better my sister has a beach condo on Perdido Key we can use. That's the barrier island beach for Pensacola. Only problem is it's 613 miles from our home in Cape Coral. We'll try to celebrate the holidays up there and maybe take my daughter up for spring break.

Outstanding! Same training our young lady had. Hopefully you get to go to PIR and also visit Pensacola. I got down there twice and love that place.
