MY daughter enlisted on Wed.  going to be a CTN!  What can I expect other than not knowing what she is doing?

I have not commented in a long time since my son's PRI in April 2012.

Congratulations Phil on your daughters accomplishment. School at Corry Station is no vacation. My son is a CTT3  in school at Corry sta. He has been at NAS and Corry since April lots of school. From what I understand he will be there at least thru July. Once again congratulations on your daughters accomplishment of Sailor of the Month.

Any former service members who held the rating of CTM? We are looking for some info about actual duty stations and our sons options post A School. Thanks

 MSgtRet Mike

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I agree that if we haven't heard anything negative, things are probably ok for Max.  What is discouraging for us besides the lack of info, is what we are hearing from other parents via their letters.  What do you know about "oush divisions". There was a comment that this might apply to Max's group.  Also, it sounds as though there have been quite a few in his group that have been disruptive and not following direction, which has led to extra PT and IT for the group.  I know Max can handle all of it, but it is discouraging.  Just can't wait for the next letter and call!

Thanks Mark. I don't think our girl is interested, but I was curious on that issue. Your explanation makes much more sense than allowing them to switch at C school.

We weren't a Navy family until we found out she wanted to join the Navy. That set us on a massive research mission on rates. I think CTI caught my eye because I can see how valuable something like mastering a Chinese language would be in the future, in the private sector.

But at the end of the process, I think she ended up with her #1 choice of CTT with AEW and it's working out great so far.

John&Lisa,

Beyond what Paul wrote, I'd like to remind you that "no news is good news"  --  that is, it is normally indicative that your SR is doing OK.  He may just be 'too tired' to write, or feel he has nothing to say.  A good tip is to ask pointed questions that he can answer - people met, friends made, how's his bunkmate, what stage is he at/what types of new things is he doing, and so on.  Over on NavyforMoms, someone even created a form questionnaire you may be able to adapt [haven't noticed one here, but haven't been looking.] Keep in mind, he's at or approaching the point where that which is going on around him seems normal, and nothing special to write about --  Not too mention being understandably a bit 'wrung out'by the time he gets to Sunday routine & can relax a little bit.  {BTDT and still remember}

For the group, I am also a Navy vet and can answer a lot of questions you may have.

@Phil, I can answer that one for you. The Navy is always looking for CTIs, but probably not until the end of the first enlistment. Your sailor can always speak with the command career counselor to see if there is a cross-rate opportunity. He would have to take the DLAB (Defense Language Aptitude Battery) and depending on his score, would be assigned a language. The school is VERY hard with about a 78% wash out rate, but well worth the hard work.
