Navy Dads

Just checking in to say hello.

Son decided after 2 years of college (ME/Physics major) that he would rather join the Navy - no problems with this (though a small part of me wished he would have finished his degree - but that will happen in time).

Anyway - he scored a 99 on the ASVAB and apparently scored high enough on some subsections that they recruited him heavily (including some calls from another recruiting region) for the nuclear program.  They have promised him either an ET(NUC) or EM(NUC) rating and advancement to E4 upon completion of A school along with a decent enlistment bonus (I know that this is pretty standard for this program).

I have absolute faith that Andy will be successful since he has already been through all of the calculus and thermo classes that he will encounter in his training as well as the fact that he tends to academically do better when his time is structured.  Very proud of him for making this decision and for taking the bull by the horns and making it happen - mom and I are trying our best to offer encouragement and advice only when asked as he needs to stand on his own and learn from his decisions.

Have learned a lot from lurking and reading these forums over the past couple of months and look forward to interacting and learning more as he makes this journey.

Guess the only question I have is why would his entry date be so far out when they were tripping over themselves to get him enlisted and through MEPS?  I have always been under the impression that the Nuclear program is/was short-staffed and that the pipeline would be wide open.
