Hi Jim,

Sean's looking forward to Dam Neck, but he'll have to wait a little while before he gets out "on the town." He turns 18 this December. We are certainly looking forward to being able to talk to him on a more frequently. I think he actually likes boot camp though, which we did not expect. Dam Neck will be close to home, which makes it easy to get together with him as he earns liberty.

 

We are wondering where he might go for C school.

 

He's Navy Reserve too, so he'll be back home after C school for a little while to finish a college degree. That is, unless he decides (with the Navy's permission) to stay in full-time.

Barry, Dam Neck is Virginia Beach so your son will have a blast. My ex wife took his car to him, so he and his friends got to ride to the different clubs and beach. He loved it. Any idea where Sean wants to go? Mike picked sea duty first and has been all over the Pacific. In fact they just left Korea. His ship has it's own Facebook page and let's us know when they arrive at a port of call, but not where and when they will be anywhere in specific.

Hi Gil,

Oh yes, we are all set to go to PIR. I am not looking forward to driving through Chicago on the way up to Great Lakes, but I am looking forward to seeing my son in his Navy Blues.

Gil, I was hatched and raised in Brooklyn, NY so I am a die hard Giants fan. And only by the grace of the football gods (and bad officiating) did they win. I was a little shocked that the Jets lost as bad as they did. But not too concerned about it.

Thanks for the welcome! My son Sean is halfway through boot camp. Based on his letters, he's doing fine. I'll read through the forum posts here, because I think you have already answered some of my questions. Looks like my son will be in good company when he gradates. Best regards, DBC

The USS George Washington is now in port. I finally received an email from Mike. He was curious about the facebook page, and will answer any questions he can when they get back to Japan. I also asked him if he and some of his fellow IS would be willing to "LIKE" it but have not heard back from him yet.

Gil, thanks for the link.  Good stuff.

 

Another good source for Navy stuff is the Allhands magazine.  Google takes you there and you can request a pdf or Flash of any month of past issues.  Simple articles (I like it that way) yet sufficient detail and depth to understand the topic.      Gil, I was Operations Specialist, but some of it crosses over + some additional duties.  And her mom was a crypto tech.  So we were happy that she got IS.
