Sorry if my comment had people assume there were fights, he only said that going outside of the mall area looked rough as any street they walked down became a place they knew would not be good for them, and they got out of there as fast as possible.

haven't heard about fights in manila from my son, I'll ask and see what he say's. jason also says he's been working his fan tail off also. Just to let everybody know, jason was on the kitty hawk for about a year and half. I'll be going to yokosuka in december for about a month. My wife visted about 5 years ago, so now it's my turn.

Does anyone have someone on the USS Shiloh?

Yesterday I got to see Garrett on Skype for Manilla in the Philippiens. The GW is the first carrier to port there in 13 years. Due to the long time since the US has been there, he and others have not enjoyed this stop. They were not prepard with service providers (cab drivers, etc.) that could communicate even a little, making travel difficult at best. He even had to show some how to read their own city map!! Command did not allow overnight stay, and other than their big mall area, things got pretty ugly and unsafe within very short distances. Hopefully this paves the way to better opportunities for future stops by other carrier groups! I believe they have pulled out today, and hopefully to home port in Japan in three weeks.

Mike, glad you finally heard from Michael! Sounds a lot like what Kevin has been doing as far as working his butt off. I guess they can't give us a lot of information about what they are doing. Kevin is back in Sasebo, but I have no idea what he will be doing next. He did say they are going somewhere else, but he didn't say where....

Feeling good right now,Finally got an email from my Sailor Michael and he sounds great! He's been working his butt off he said.It sounds like it's paying off for him, he went from chock and chains to towing aircraft in a short time ABH is ranked by the color of there shirt so he's already tasting the Yellow. He's not able to talk about the Ships whereabouts but he did say there on there way back to Sasebo just like you said Lee

For anyone who is a member of Facebook, I found a group called, "Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo Japan" that gives some good information. Thought I would pass it along!

I got a short note from Kevin and he said there was no damage or any major concerns about the earthquakes in Sasebo. I am keeping my eyes and ears open just in case there is any more activity in the area.
