Oh my! Hope all is well. The GW has had a good first tour out of Japan so far from what my son says. The most exciting time for him was him going up on deck during a typoon to check the connections of the Helo's strapped to the deck. He said it was wierd laying under the Helo while the deck crashed down from the huge waves and seeing the bottom of it coming within inches of him as he tested the harness. Crazy! I bet she is excited to join them! Glad she finally got out there, as I remember you mentioning she was scheduled to go a while back.

Thank you Mark. Great respect for the corpsman, as Garrett had to learn and pass all medical techniques for triage of survivors when he reaches them in the sea before and during transport back to the corpsman on deck/base. Congrats for his hard work and success in his field! Who knows they may meet someday.

Hello all, I just found this group and look forward to learning from the many veterans of Saliors stationed in Japan. My son is stationed at Atsugi, but currently out on tour on the USS George Washington as an AW/Rescue Swimmer. I think they come back to home port in Japan at the end of August beginning of Sept. He has only been at Atsugi since March 09. Thank God for Skype when he is there, as well as seeing him in Singapore a few days ago!!

Jonis was in the Fleet Rec in Yokosuka when the Earthquake hit.... When he called this morning he said the it was being reported a 6.1 at that spot....He's been in Typhones, Hurricane, Tornados & more storms that we can count on lower levels since we live in Central TX.... This was his first Earthquake...

Those of you that have Sailors in Japan & are buying IPHONEs... Be very careful... I understand that it's charged/billed roaming; Which can get extremely expensive. Just keep that in mind....

Congratulations to Brooklyn! I know how proud both of you are! I may take a look at Skype...I never really thought about it until I saw your posts. Thanks for the idea! I have tried to get Kevin to go online with his webcam, but we can't seem to find time when he is free and we are awake...lol

Cora, if she is like Kevin, you may get calls pretty frequently the first couple of weeks then they will dwindle...then the emails dwindle. Kevin said the first 2 weeks they have a shipmate take you around the area and get you accustomed to the area. Then they put you to work! He has had good days and bad days. I can tell at times he is homesick, but that iis getting better. He has now been gone a little over 2 months so I think he is getting used to life on a ship.

That burger looks good, by my doctor would shoot me if I ate that thing! :-)

Mike, I would say he probably is. I don't hear from Kevin a lot and when I do, it is a 4-minute call at 5am or a short email. I did get a lengthy email today, but there were no details other than they made port in Okinawa and the note about the Sasebo burger. Keep the faith Mike...Michael is doing just fine but probably too busy to call or email. I am getting used to the silence.....lol
