Yes, he has emailed many pictures and looks beautiful there. My wife and youngest daughter are looking to fly there sometime this coming year, but can't figure out a flight until we get his fleet schedule. Thanks for the information on the sponsor, I will pass it along to him. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

The ships ombudsman may be able to help him out with the sponsor situation. It's great that he's getting a chance to get out see the sites. There's certainly alot to see around Yoko! It's a great area. Make sure he sends you lots of pics. If you get the opportunity, you should try to make plans to visit him while he's there. I think you'd enjoy it.

Thanks Fishdad, he is on the ship and working. Finally got a phone call, he sounds good. He is working with the GSM, but job title still un-designated. Sounds like he will have to wait a year before officially getting a job title, not sure why. He was having sponsor problems before he left to head down there, no responses from the ship. But again, he sounds good, has already ventured off the base and seen some sites. Actually I am a bit jealous.

John, let me know if he's still in TPU or if he's already on the ship and we'll try to make a connection.

Brad, sure wish we had a 'like' button on here. Great picture. I can't imagine being any prouder than you must be of your children. Bravo Zulu!!

As promised, a pic from my daughter's commissioning as a US Marine 2nd Lt. with her brother just after the traditional 1st salute. One of the proudest moments in our family's history!  He was able to fly in from Japan to be there from his sister, after missing her graduation from University of Florida and her wedding in 2010, he made it for this

Fishdad, thank you for the offer from you and your son, very kind. I believe he has already met some good people, but still would be nice. He is excited, but still a little overwhelmed. 4-days ago working on cars in the garage with me, then off to a different country and life-style.

Thank you all for your responses. I think it's great he on The USS Stethem, she is a beauty. Some questions for now, does the base to anything for Christmas. While out to sea, do we hear from our sailors once and a while. I am receiving emails from him and 1-call so far. He got a global data plan for now. From you experience, is there a better device for communication he can look into? 1-more for now, promise, how often do they set sail? That last one is probably an open ended question, sorry, just trying to wrap my head around the whole experience. Thanks again.

Welcome John. Yokosuka is a great place. I think your son will like it there. Let us know what specific questions you have. Our son is in Yokosuka as well and may be able to show him around if he'd like. Let me know.
