Theresa, our sons ship was in Sasebo for three months this year following the earthquake and he really liked it. Said it was a great base. I also have a friend who was stationed there for 4 years and she misses it terribly. That says alot. We all understand how far away it seems. Make sure you set up a Skype account before he goes. You'll get to talk to him and see him alot more and it helps tremendously.

Happy to see the photo of the USS Denver!  My son is an FC who will report to Sasebo - right before Xmas.  This will be his first set of orders - he just graduated C school in San Diego.  Sasebo seems so far away right now!!

Heath and I are mailing out 25 Care Packages to Japan tomorrow.  Hope they bless whoever they find.

We take Heath to Bethesday on Friday to see a surgeon. Praying for good news. He's getting stronger and eating like a teenager. It's great to see his appetite back. He's looking forward to Thursday. The Pittsburgh Penguins (his favorite team) sent him tickets for the game. It's sure to be a good day.

Hope everyone and your Sailors are doing well out there.

And someone had asked for a picture of Heath. There's one under my profile.

fishdad & Brandon thank you so much for the info..... My son is on the USS Germantown part of the Essex Arg group and is underway for a while, so this is somthing I am going to have to try to take care of for him from the states.....guess I should have mentioned that..it would be so much easier if he was in port and I knew what in the world I was doing.  I know flights out of Tokyo are cheaper, but it's expensive for him to get to Tokyo, he will have to leave from FUK ??

battlebuddy, I went through IACE travel. They're an agent that deal strictly with Japan/USA flights. Have your sailor look it up in Japan and call that number (if you call from the USA and are departing from Japan, it's way more expensive). One piece of advice I would give you, make sure to tell your sailor that regardless of who they go with, make sure that they stay with the SAME airline the whole trip. That way, if a flight is missed, that particular airline is responsible for getting them on another flight. We just had this happen with our son coming out of Japan. Missed his flight by and hour, but the airline put him on "protected" status, so he was guaranteed a flight out that night and he couldn't get bumped.

Hey Battlebuddy, hope all is well with you and yours. My son is also coming home for the holiday's from Yokosuka. He found the cheapest flights on www.kayak.com. Hope this helps.

Need some help from you guys. My sailor is most likely getting leave from December 29 till Jan. 12th. He wants to come home desperately and I am looking for the easiest way for him to get home from Sasebo. Any one have any ideas?

So sorry to hear about this sailor who died in Yoko. Very sad, would like to reach out to his or her parents and extend our heartfelt condolences.

Some sad news from Yokosuka. We lost one of our Sailors in a Motorcycle accident last night. My sincere condolences to the family and shipmates of this Sailor. Please keep them in your prayers.
