Yeah...Just got an E-mail from my son. He just arived in Australia. He is on the Germantown and he sounds pretty excited from his e-mail. He is stationed in Sasebo and has been there since May 7, 2011. He has been underway 2 times already! I just have a hard time with no communication for extended periods of time...Hopefully now that they are there....he will communicate a little more with us. Brandon...prayers going up for your son. Enjoy Japan. I plan on going over some time next year when the ship is not deployed....hopefully.

I am so excited for all of the Sailors and Marines who are exploring Australia! :)

Hello all. Been a while since I have stepped in to visit the site. Hope all is well with everyone. I am currently here in Yokosuka visiting my son Mike as he prepares for shoulder surgery next week. I thought it would be a good time for my first visit being that he is on limited duty and has the time to show me around. The base here in Yoko is great, they do a really good job of bringing as much of a family atmosphere to the base as possible. I am also impressed with the cleanliness and availability of services for our naval family. My son and I have taken some great day trips as well as an over-nighter camping in Ikego over the July 4th weekend. It's been great spending time with him and experiencing his life here in Yokosuka. His surgery is scheduled for July14th and his rehab will be extensive. Any and all prayers are welcomed. Best to everyone ~~Brandon

Thanks to all who responded.  After talking with my wife last night we think we are going to wait until Chirstmas of 2012 and plan on meeting our son in Japan.  This way we can get some more information and plan the trip when the ship returns from it deployment.  Will be a lot easier when he is in one place and we can talk to him.

My son has yet to take leave but is now working on it for Aug-Sep. He has to wait for the right guy to get back from his leave in order to begin the process. Mark's right, leave is very unpredictable. When we had plans to go over our son had reservations on base at a very reasonable rate.
