Hey Rich, trust me I understand where both you and your wife are coming from. As they grow more accustomed to their surroundings, they begin to branch out and develop their own lives over there. We of course interpret that as "they have no time for us" which is natural but I assure you that they never forget who their love and support vehicles are. They are just finding themselves and experiencing everything that there is at their fingertips. It's a cycle, one where they always come full circle, be patient.

Hello again
Disregard last post. Talked to him on skype just after I posted. He has just been working 12 hour shifts and hitting the clubs. I guess he does'nt have time for Mama and Papa anymore. We are glad he is getting out and making friends though, because we did'nt want him to just sit and play video games and sit on the computer all the time. But my wife did stress to him that he needs to check in with her often.

I know their is at least one other dad on here who's son is in HS-14 but I can't remember who he is.

SECNAV Says Tomodachi Made US, Japan Alliance Stronger
By Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Fidel C. Hart, USS Blue Ridge Public Affairs

YOKOSUKA, Japan (April 20, 2011) Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) the Honorable Ray Mabus speaks to Sailors and Marines from units involved in Operation Tomodachi during an all-hands call at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Todd Macdonald)

YOKOSUKA, Japan (NNS) - The Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) thanked more than a thousand 7th Fleet Sailors and Marines in Yokosuka Apr. 20 who participated in disaster relief operations off the coast of Japan.

The Honorable Ray Mabus expressed his gratitude to Sailors assigned 7th Fleet ships USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62), USS Cowpens (CG 63), USS Shiloh (CG 67), USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54), Stethem (DDG 63), USS John S. McCain (DDG 56), and USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) who gathered at the Yokosuka waterfront for an all-hands call with SECNAV.

"To be as flexible as you were, to go from one mission to suddenly turn and do humanitarian assistance and disaster relief without costs, without changing any equipment, any people, changing any training and going from your normal day-to-day jobs without any hesitation and doing it so well, no other country can do that and no other service can do that like the people here," Mabus said.

Within hours of the earthquake and resulting tsunami that struck Japan March 11, much of the U.S. 7th Fleet was on the move, repositioning ships and aircraft to assist the Japanese Self Defense Force in their relief efforts.

The U.S. Navy brought 22 ships, 132 aircraft and more than 15,000 personnel to conduct missions as part of Operation Tomodachi.

Tomodachi is the Japanese word for 'friendship.'

In the days and weeks that followed, 7th Fleet forces delivered more than 260 tons of relief supplies to groups of isolated people ashore. They systematically mapped and cleared harbors from obstuctions to navigation, provided fuel and supplies to Japanese ships and aircraft, and searched more than 2,000 square miles of ocean in a concerted effort to find the remains of victims.

"There is no other force in the world other than the United States Navy and Marine Corps that could have done what you all did," Mabus said.

Mabus said Operation Tomodachi demonstrated the U.S. commitment to its longtime alliance with Japan.

"The partnership between America and Japan was made stronger because of what you did," Mabus said.

Following the all-hands call, Mabus took questions from the collection of Sailors and Marines and took the time to personally meet with many of them.

Just posted a new pic of Garrett and a pilot, Lt. Geary, both from the same hometown and both families have gone to the same church as well.  The world is indeed smaller everyday.

State and Defense Lift Japan Departure and Stop Movement Orders

WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Effective April 15, the State and Defense Departments' authorized departure of eligible family members from Japan and the stop movement of families to Japan have been lifted.

The decision was made following the State Department's determination that conditions in Japan following the earthquake and tsunami last month do not pose a significant risk to U.S. citizens.

Eligible family members who left Japan under the voluntary authorized departure or who had orders to Japan and were directed to stop movement may now return at government expense, to include quarantine of two household pets. However, those families whose sponsor is expected to execute Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders out of Japan within the next 60 days may not, unless authorized by the Secretary of the Navy.

Families who fall in this category are authorized safe haven allowances for up to 10 days from the date of the authorized departure termination and are expected to make travel arrangements to the new Permanent Duty Station (PDS) during this timeframe.

Authorized family members who departed with command-sponsored, school-aged children and who were enrolled in school at their safe haven location, have the option to remain with the child at this location until completion of the current school semester. Allowances for these families will end one day after the last day of the school semester.

Safe haven allowances will be processed in accordance with Joint Federal Travel Regulations (JFTR). The termination of allowances and entitlements will vary depending on the circumstances of each family.

According to NAVADMIN 132/11, Command Pass Coordinators (CPC) will work with Sailors and their families to complete passenger reservation requests in order to make return travel arrangements for families and their pets.

If affected family members decide not to return to their sponsor's PDS, they may be authorized movement to a designated place under the early return authority contained in the JFTR, if the sponsor has not received official notice of a PCS move from the overseas duty station.

Non-command sponsored family members who evacuated and traveled at government expense to an overseas location may be provided return transportation to the PDS however, non-command sponsored family members who traveled at government expense to the continental United States is not authorized return transportation to Japan, unless approved by the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (USD(P&R)).

The Travel Processing Center – Hampton Roads (TPC-HR) remains the central processing site for all evacuation claims. Additionally, a fact sheet titled "Termination of Authorized Departure: Information regarding Return to Japan" is available at www.npc.navy.mil.

Travel claim forms and related information can also be found at www.cnic.navy.mil under popular links. Other useful sources of information are outlined in the NAVADMIN.

All eligible family members are strongly encouraged to update the status of their location upon arrival in Japan in the Navy Family Accountability and Assessment System (NFAAS) at https://www.navyfamily.navy.mil.

For more detailed information regarding the return of eligible family members to Japan, read NAVADMIN 132/11.
