  Hello

Well my son arrived in Japan. He called last night around 10. Who ever picked him up drove him to the wrong place so he was waiting for someone else to pick him up. He only had a few minutes and said he could'nt say where he was and where he was going to end up. So we are still waiting to find out where he will be stationed. He did sound alot better than he did when he left. He was real tired after staying up all night with all his friends so I guess he slept on the planes. Anyhow thanks again for the info and I hope you all have a happy new year.

Thanks again to all of you for the info. I still have'nt heard from him and waiting by the phone. I know it might take some time for him to call. he did'nt call much when he was in Pensacola so doubt things will not change much. He is a AO and going to be attached to a helicopter squadron. he tells me he will be on the ground all the time but I'm not sure he really knows that. I can't remember what city he is going to so maybe someone here can tell me where hs-14 is at? I think it would be a shame to be in the Navy and never get to go on a ship but that's what he picked while at Pensacola so I guess that is what he wants. Anyhow it was great having him home for 10 days before he left. I drove down there to get him and had a chance to see the navy museum and two old forts before driveing back. The museum is really something to see.

Luckily for me, neither Japan nor Arizona use Daylight Savings Time, so for us Tokyo is always our time +16 hrs.  My daughter was funny when talking with Aaron in Japan over the weekend, she kept saying "You are in the future"  I think she wanted him to tell her what was going to happen the next day...  : )

And yes Rich, we were very confused with all of the times and the flights as well. We learned to ask "Are we talking Eastern Daylight Time, Mountian Time, Tokyo Time?" lol. He'll be fine.

Rich,

Their sponsors are American and are also serving in the same ship. They show them around and get them acclimated.  The flight from the States lasts around 14 hours. And since your are in Chicago, they are 13 hours ahead of you. This will drop back to 12 hours ahead of you when we "Spring Ahead" due to daylight savings.  You will be surprised at how quickly you get used to knowing what time of the day it is for him. The base is very "American" and he will feel at home quickly. They take very good care of our guys and gals over there.

Thanks Jody. I thought they were behind us with time but it seems like they are a day ahead of us.

Fishdad What or whom is their sponsor? American or Japanese? Also this might sound stupid but I live near Chicago and I would like to know if it is 12 (noon) what time is it in Japan? I heard from my son last night while he was waiting for his flight to Japan. He arived there at around 8 last night and his flight to Japan was supposed to leave at 3:40 in the morning. How long does that flight last? Just trying to figure out if he arrived in Japan yet. Sorry for all the questions just a little nervous for him.

Rich,

There will be many people ready and willing to help him out. His sponsor should be able to answer any questions that he has. They are very supportive of one another over there. We'll be praying that he has a safe trip and that you get to talk with him soon.

Thank you all for the info. Just dropped him off at Ohare and he is in the air now. Now i will just have to wait untill he gets in contact with us. I hope they go over the options in the indoc classes he will take and that he pays attention. He was really tired today after staying up all night with his friends. He had alot of fun but I'm sure he is paying the price right now. Thanks again guys.
