I am with you all..no news is good news. And it's better not to hear from them than to compromise their safety. However..it will be good to hear from them again sometime soon. Emphasis on 'soon'. Godspeed to our guys and gals and Gods peace to you all as you wait to hear from them.

Yes, I have noticed that we have quite a few with sailors aboard the USS Lassen. My son is an ABF aboard the USS GW, working with fueling and aircraft. I do the same thing, constantly checking FB and I leave Skype on on both my cell and my laptop in case there is an opportunity for him to chat. When he is out, it is very very rare other then an email here and there. As you said, given the sensitivity of the region they are in, I am sure communication is limited which is fine. Always better safe then sorry.

My son is stationed on the USS Lassen which is assigned to the GW strike group. I suppose if the group goes to port somewhere after the exercises, they will have access to internet. At the very least, we may be able to get an update or, better yet, chat with them on Facebook or Skype.

For what it's worth, I checked Facebook last night on my iPhone and noticed my son as recently online. With the internet delay, he sometimes is "online" even though his status is "offline". I tried to initiate a chat session, but was unable to (I got an error). It made me wonder if he was able to use one of the computers on the ship while he was on break or off work duty at the time. However, I seriously doubt that they would be able to use any sort of chat or instant messenger utilities while at sea. Especially, given the circumstances and high alert conditions in the region.

Understood Gary, much appreciated. Like yourself, my son is has been in Japan aboard the US GW since December as well, so we are pretty much in the same position. Skype and FB are our staple when he is back in Yoko too.

I believe the exercises are scheduled through Wednesday. However, I'm a bit unclear as to whether that is "our" Wednesday or not. Obviously, OPSEC requirements would prohibit specifics as to actual return dates for the group or specific ships. Frankly, I'm a bit new to this as my son has only been in the Navy for about a year. This is his first real experience at sea. We keep in touch on Facebook and Skype. While they are out, those options are unavailable.

We are all really in the dark Gary. Just curious if anyone had heard anything new that they would share. No news is good news works for me!

Sort of in the dark here myself, but that's to be expected. Other than news reports, we'll just have to wait and see how things shake out. I suppose no news is good news.

Anyone heard any reliable news yet on what is happening with the GW? Everything I read has contradictions..

Michael, is Paul with HS-14? If so hope he can work with Garrett on the GW!
