Jim I wish your son well on the GW and I am sure he will enjoy Japan. One of the way to enjoy seeing your son is thru a web cam. In the past we open Christmas presents while on web cam and shared the moment live with our son Paul.

Well, our son Aaron is home on leave until he transfers to the GW next month. He will fly out on Dec. 19th, we will sure miss having him home for Christmas but are proud that he will be deployed "at the tip of the spear" in Japan.

There is a lot to do in the next few weeks: order his passport, cancel his cellphone, get his car taken care of and straighten out his travel (we are in Phoenix, he drove home from NY and SATO has him flying out of Albany instead of Phoenix...)

It is just exciting to have Aaron home, we have not seen him in about 10 months and who knows when we will see him next?

I appreciate all the support, suggestions and advice on how to handle this transition, thanks for all your help!

fishdad: My son arrived at about the same time - on October 15th. He seems to be doing well and settling in. I keep in touch with him mainly through Facebook and Skype. He said that his LPO had a wonderful thanksgiving get-together for his division which he really enjoyed.

Gary, I agree. Prayers are going up for all of our sailors. Godspeed to them. How long has your son been in Yokosuka? Our son arrived about a month ago.

@fishdad: My son Brian is currently serving on the USS Lassen as a Sonar Technician. Let's hope and pray that the joint military exercises go smoothly and without incident. Feel free to contact me directly if you wish to communicate or share information concerning your Sailor.

My son recently graduated form OCS and is now at Surface Warfare Officer School. He will be reporting to Yokosuka in January aboard the USS John McCain. Any information that you can give me to make the transition easier from me, my wife, and my sone would be greatly appreciated.

Hello there Mr Gabby. My son is also based in Japan albeit he has only been there for 9 months. From the picture I am looking at, both you and your son have much to be proud of. Welcome to the family and have yourself a great holiday!

I am Paul Gabby's Dad and I want to thank you all for allowing me to join your group. Paul has been in Japan for several years and I know he loves what he does and is very serious about his job. I have nothing but honor for him and his fellow crewmen. Paul has extended his stay in Japan and has signed on for 4 more years. I hope that we all have a safe and joyful Holiday Season.
