Congratulations Brad. My son was originally assigned to the USS Cowpens as a Sonar Technician. Due to some last minute changes, he is now assigned to the USS Lassen and will be leaving for Japan sometime in the middle of October.

Just heard from Garrett today! He just passed his boards for EAWS Enlisted Air Warfare Specialist today! He leaves on the USS Cowpens in a couple of days from Japan. The CO will fly on board to pin the Silver Wings sometime in Sept. Now he will have both gold and silver wings on his chest.

Has anyone noticed that there is almost no activity on this site whatsoever. I cannot imagine that all of these loved ones have nothing to share pertaining our soldiers....I wish everyone the best and hope that we can get this site going.

Good morning all. Well it looks like we have made it through the whole "Korean Challenge" safely and without incident. I for one am proud and confident in our sailors and just wanted to wish you all the best.

Brian, three weeks is the norm so you should consider yourself fortunate. Our packages take the same, both to and from. At least your getting them through.

We had some legal paperwork Lee needed to sign & have notarized, unfortunately the originals had to be mailed. It took 3 weeks for them to get to her, now we have been waiting 2 weeks so far for their return from Sasebo. Hell I could have flown them in & returned by now - lol! And had time to spend w/ Lee....

It would be interesting to find out why some packages go faster than others. Is it the package size, or the way they are labeled ? I have had good luck so far with the Flat Rate boxes. One thing I don't like is filling out the customs form listing the contents. The customs form seems like it would invite theft of anything of value.

When I went to the PO after I sent the first box to my son..He finally got it 6 weeks later. And that was because a cap on a plastic btl broke and the box was quarentined for 6 weeks. Luckily it was in a plastic bag. They also told me there was nothing they could do. Because once it gets to California the Army takes over the mail and dealing with it.

I am not sure that Cora can just shrug off the system losing three packages. Frustration would be from the first, but after that there has to be someone to speak to that can give her answers.
