& YES Mike... coming home from Japan for leave can be very expensive..... Jonis is suppose to come home the end of Dec for a few wks & so far the cheapest airfair we've found has been $1,300.00. So be prepared....

Mike, congratulations to your son. He will get some opportunities to come back. My son has been over there almost a year and has leave to come back for Thanksgiving plus the 1st 10 days in Dec. this year. So hold out hope for the holidays next year! Make sure you both get Skype so you can see each other when they are not out to sea. All the best.

My son just finished A-School in Mississippi and has received orders to report to the USS GW in Japan! I know I won't be seeing too much of him while he's there. Do most sailors based in Japan get to come home to the states on leave ? Is it expensive for them to fly back home ?

That's sounds nice to have another photo of him. I know Jake didn't have the BCG's in BC. But they let him wear his periodically in BC & of course after BC. I wonder why they call them that, I assumed it Boot Camp Glasses.

When my son had his photos taken at BC, they let him wear his civilian glasses. He said there is no way he would have his picture taken in them. As a momento of his time at GL, he left his glasses here with me...lol

You will also get a chance to purchase photos when he goes on his first tour on the GW. We got them with our son in uniform and it says 2009 summer tour on the USS George Washington with both US and Japan flags. Very cool.

Awesome advice and I thank you all. I was definately planning on making his Fav's and encourage him to spend time with friends...while I'm at work,LOL. Good idea to take pictures, I was just thinking of our family Christmas picture with him in his uniform. That makes we want to cry with joy! God bless all your loved ones & again thanks for commenting.

Remember to still give him some space to be with his freinds too. In our desire to hold them close, we sometime smother them. Enjoy them of course and enjoy their favorites, from food to activites, but let them enjoy their freinds which they will miss too!

Hi all, My son comes home Monday for 3 1/2 weeks then off to Japan to the GW. He'll be gone for Christmas, the 1st time ever. I am happy he'll be home Thanksgiving but sad at the same time. Any suggestions for this momma whose so proud and sad at the same time. I will treasure the time he's home, I'm just nervous for him.

The fleet has shown up in Hong Kong, but the Shiloh turned left and ended up in Sasebo
