Wow,  I think I know who your talking about.  I will go in an say hello to Robert.  Crew chief for #1 that's nice.  I took my son to Pensecola when he left KU after his NROTC and his commision.  He still owns a home in Whiting where he went to flight school, met his wife and hopes to return to be a flight instructor when he completes his fleet time in about three years.  I will go see Robert at the good old hardware store.  It's the kind of place that could be a "TV reality show"

Yes, I visit Hartman Hardware often.  At the corner of Neiman and Johnson Dr.  Just in there last week.  A great old style family owned hardware store.  If they don't have it,,they tell you where to go and find it.  Even if it's a competitors business.

Thanks for the welcome KS Dad.  I am from the Shawnee Kansas area. I was raised in Derby KS, moved to the Kansas City area in 1967 at age 12.  Married 30 years and have two children. One, my Navy son, is in Norfolk Va. but leaves for Guam at the end of Nov.  My daughter found the love of her life and ended up back in my home town of Derby KS.  So we have stayed Kansas.  "There's no place like home"

Nice to find additional parents of land locked Kansas that have produced Navy sailors.  I am new to this site but will continue to explore and follow.

"They all have excellent resumes... So what I’m trying to find out is how they will behave under pressure. Will they lie, or bluff, or panic, or wilt? Or will they continue to function with some modicum of competence and integrity?" Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, U.S. Navy, discussing his style of interviewing all officers who entered the Naval Reactors program.

The USS JayHawk meets the USS Wildcat tonight, a classic confrontation of the two most winning teams in NCAA history. (Ok UCLA is in there too) Good luck to all without any injuries.
