My son is still in A School and this is what they were told. Evolution. I guess it happens in the Navy also.

Interesting. No one has said that to any of us. My son is looking to cross rate ar go to college in the Seaman to Admiral program. MMCs talked to us about what would we like to see our son do with his life. Funny question considering he is 25 years old. I guess because we flew from Pa to SD, Ca. they thought that we are a tight family. I guess we are in a way.

My son told me that they were told that the MM rating will be obsolete in the next couple of years. Said they will either become EN rating or other options.

To the point he is tired of Hawaii, To expensive for his beer budget. The only place he has not been is down under. He really wants to get to Australia. Last chance possibly next Jan if he is still on board. Out now look up RIMPAC 2010. They need to take advantage of MRW trips when in port get to do things cheaper and be with others(safer). Hard to see the world if you don't stay safe. He has tons of pictures. Some time he will get a chance to organize them. You will learn the names of places you have only dreampt of. Have to go to work .

My son had no idea he was going to be assigned to a carrier, initial orders, wich by the way me absolutely nothing , were for a command ship, he did end up with 4 of his buddies from A school on the Abe

No they do not. They can be on any type of ship. They have to serve 5 years of sea duty for their first rotation. My son has been on the Reagan for 4 1/2 years. He just re enlisted and will start looking at shore orders in Sept. He is also looking at more schooling.

Do MMs all get assigned to aircraft carriers?

I know the day to day operations of many things depend on the MM's. Hot water, clean dishes, laundry, water fountains just to name a few. When he was reactor response team at one point. My non nuclear MM.
