Finally got the scoop on MM rate elimination, MM nukes will survive, most other MM's will become EN's but only as the fleet becomes Gerald Ford class carriers, no more steam catapults.

Welcome aboard Richard. Good thing about being an MM is the heat and AC always work in birthing and there is always hot water in the head.

I have not heard of it being eliminated. The need for MMs however is dimenishing and the rate has become over manned making advancement very difficult.

Yes my son was given a list of other rates he could strike for. Nukes are going to remain mechanical are being absorbed by other rates.

Hi All,

Is the Machinist mate rate being eliminmated?

Comment by Crystal Mitchell on July 26, 2011 at 1:57pm

Well with the MM rating beening closed down over the next several years plans change. My son Justen is going to finish his 8 years and get out. He is sure this is what he needs to do. I was hoping he would go for 20 and retire. Teaching fire fighting in RI is very different than his ship board duties ever were. But he is adjusting. He is amazed at the amopunt of civilians working on the base for every day jobs such as heating and AC as well as lawn maint. He is really not happy with the poor job done around his work center onn the lawn.

Was watching Top Gun today and noticed how they were always sweating in the ready room. Must not have been nice the the Machinist Mates and had their AC cut off.

Very nice, smile is a mile wide . So glad you got to go. It is something you will never forget and having pictures sure helps to show others what a fantastic time you had.
