It will be OK mitch. Try talking to him about it. Honest it gets better the longer they are in. You visited him at school so he feels you already had him to yourself. Tell him how you feel. Even if it is hurt. He maybe trying to reconnect with to many old friends. Talk to him he may be a sailor but you are still his Dad.

Seems like he isn't even here.

The first 18 months or so it feels like you are a motel when they are home. We set some ground rules for time at home. I know that sounds immature but they revert to bad habits in a way. We took the calendar and set dates for special meals and family contact. Nights out were fine but phone calls were needed if you are not coming home. Parents can't sleep if they don't know where you are and they still go to work . By the time the first 18 months were up he knew who his real friends from home were. Who really keeps in contact. Facebook and email with cell phones give them a lot of ways to see who cares. Now 4 years later we still set any special events on the calendar. But he understands that at 25 we still worry and will come and get him in a minute if he has had to much to drink and his DD has not refrained from drinking. No questions asked. We are still his number one fans and are there for him when others fail to show. It has gotten better with time.

I hope you have gotten you fair share of time with your Sailor while he has been home Mitch. I know when Jeff was home it seemed like I spent more time with him when I went up to visit him for a weekend while he was in A school.

Bubba put in for shore duty orders this week. Mayport Fl. Jax. FL, and Key West Fl. Do you think he wants to go to Florida? He wants to stay warm and we are just to cold in Pa. He was born in Jax. Fl. I just think the next 6 months will be long as he tries to come to the East coast.

Oldest got home today. Took him to the recruiter to take the practice test. After riding on the bus all night and not getting much sleep, he still did great! Going to get sworn in this week, and going back to college Saturday!

It depends. Christmas and new years are different. He should ask some one who has been there. Usually have the dtes and time periods set up ahead on holiday leave. Normal leave like summer time you should find out fairly quickly. Like about a week after the"CHIT" request is submitted.
