My Daughter goes in for OCS tommorrow June 3. Say a prayer that she can complete the rigors and become the officer she was meant to be! She knows it is a long 10 weeks as she made it through 8 weeks last year before she broke her leg in the 8th week. She is stronger this time, with much better times, so we pray she gets through this time. What a celebration when she does!

A quick note to say I posted some pics of my daughter's wedding to her Marine as she prepares to go to OCS herself June 3. I got all choked up saying the toast, especially when I had to announce my son missing this out on the USS Geaorge Washington which I was interrupted with appluse honoring him, then saying the e-mail he sent the night before for me to say to his sister. Afterwards, I asked all current and former military to stand, and before I could ask, the whole place erupted in thunderous applause. It was the hardest speech I have ever made, but I am so glad I did. I don't know, maybe I can post it somehow. Regardless, a moment to remember!

Do any of you have a son that deployed towards the end of April from Camp Pendleton?

My son Garrett was sent back on the GW just as they were to leave for their three week or so initial cruise. Dissappointed only because he was to go on the Cowpens cruiser as one of 4 AW/Rescue swimmers, but it was down for service. We were hoping he could come home for his sister's wedding this Sat 5/22, since the Cowpens wasn't scheduled to leave until June. His sister understands though, she is marrying a newly commissioned 2nd LT in the Marines, and is scheduled to go to OCS for the Marines herself June 3rd to become a 2nd LT. Pray for nice weather in Central Florida on 5/22!! Let us remember Garrett's sacrafice at the wedding, along with all of your sailor's sacrafices to all of us every day.

Hello ~ I'm a Navy Corpsman mom. My son is stationed at Camp Pendleton and just deployed so I consider him to be more Marine than Navy right now. =) I'm so glad there's a group here for you. Good job, Cora!

When there is the will, there is a way Cora. I am sure he will accomplish his goal, since he wants it bad enough. Bravo to his friend!

As an existing Navy dad with a son as a Resuce Swimmer/AW, I have joined your group because my daughter Valerie has been accepted into the June class for the Marines OCS in Quantico. She graduates from University of Florida May 1st and gets married on May 22nd to her fianc'e who is being commissioned 2nd Lt. as he graduates from Virgina Tech's cadet program May 14th. So you can see I will need much input from those who may know of what they will be going through. Her pft scores are much better than last year at 291. The 10 week program is brutal I know, as she almost completed it last year but broke her leg in week 8. She is much better prepared and excited to complete it this time. I look forward to learning and participating in your group.
