new here, and happy to see a site with so much good info and support. I have a daughter in DIV 922 about to go to PIR. I saw a post that said there is only 1 DIV 922 per year. they made it sound…Continue

HI Paul and both Jims
Thanks for your feedback. The jobs he had to choose from were culinary school, electricians mate, undesignate airman/seaman and one other. He chose airman. At this point they said he would probably be sent to Japan which works for him since he wants to travel. He know this rate is pretty bad (at least in his mind). I just find it hard to believe this is all they had to offer him...
He is 25 so he is a grown man and knows he has to just suck it up. I talked to him about a Plan B but don't know what happened with that. I am proud of him regardless. I guess its just the Father coming out in me.
There are very few rates open these days......"Needs of the Navy" dictate where they put you and what jobs are available....it is nothing new. For specialized rates it pays to have a Plan "B" in the back of your mind.....
HI
New to this site.
My son went in with a swcc contract. Trained for about 10 months before he left for BC. Went through a special ops BC, graduated
went off to Coronado. Was doing great but could not get passed 1 water test and had to DOR.
He then was given only 5 lousy choices of rates to choose from. None of which he ever would have picked to join in the first place. He has a bachelor's degree and scored high on his entrance exam and this is where he winds up. He is aggravated to say the least.
He knows he's stuck and will do his 4 years because he has to. He's learning a lesson the hard way. Has gone from motivated to deflated but will make the best of it.
Lesson in this is make sure if you know future sailors they are clear on all of their options before they sign the bottom line.
Congrats to your son Mark. My son is IS and stationed on the George Washington based in Japan. He loves it.
Greetings all. Navy Vet from the late '70s here. My son was in 2 years this past December 1. He is a CTI, already made E5 and is loving the Navy.
The hardest part from a parent's pov is the no-contact during bootcamp. The time will pass pretty quickly and you will be amazed when you see your sailor at PIR!
