My son graduates A School in San Antonio in March. My question is, do they have a ceremony or anything for graduating from A school and can parents attend if they do?
Thank you
A new navy dad

You are correct. MA2 & MA3 relate to rank. An MA who is a 3rd class Petty Officer would be refereed to as MA3, and a second class PO would be MA2.
It is possible that your son could be promoted to MA3(E-4) upon graduation. There were a couple of Sailors in my daughter's class that had this happen. However, I don't know what rules govern this? Although, I would assume that if this was planned for your son it would be included in his orders to MA A-School?
Make sure that you son has his baby shampoo, milk and yogurt ready for after the OC spray!
Scott, thank you this information. You have been most helpful. I certainly appreciate it.

No Problem Paul! I'm glad that I can be of assistance. So many others helped me to get through my daughter and son-in-law joining, the least I can do is to do the same.
I just posted my tips for MA Graduation here. I hope they help you in planning for your son's Graduation.
Scott,
Wow! You have been a godsend with information regarding MA graduation. Again, thank you so much! You have made my day.

I went to my son's MA graduation last Friday. It was outstanding. They also had a tribute to the men and women who lost their lives in the attack on Pearl Harbor, it was deeply moving. If you Navy MA Dad's can afford to go to this graduation ceremony, go! It was very personal and the staff was excellent, and they really did appreciate the families that can and do attend the ceremony. It was well done! Also to Scott Karneth, your MA Graduation tips were perfect, thank you very much.
To the Naval Technical Training Center Command at Lackland. After attending my son's MA graduation on December 6, 2013, I must commend the leadership team at Lackland. Every Sailor I met was kind, respectful, and extended the upmost courtesy to my wife and myself. I must have heard yes sir, excuse me sir and thank you sir, from each and every Sailor we came across during our visit to the NTTC. I was impressed with these MA training recruits and graduates. The command at this facility should also be extremely proud of the values that you have instilled in these young men and women.
Usually pictures inside the base are forbidden. Although, my daughter did send me some pictures. Erik would just have to be very careful of what's in the pictures. It's an active military base and security is of utmost importance. You will be able to take pictures inside the graduation room.
