My son Chris is scheduled to graduate from MA A School on March 18th.  How long before then, usually, does the sailor find out about his deployment?

Yes Bill, Kris was wanting San Diego but nothing was open I'm the onethat told him to get Hawaii if he could. So he was second in his "A" school class they had three orders open for Hawaii he choose Hawaii. The Chiefs teased him asking him how he got hawaii   when they were never able to get shore duty in Hawaii. : )

Joe, well if he is with MSF then he probably won't be in Bahrain long enough to spend much money. From what Sean has told me there are a lot of places to spend money however.  I guess there are places you can buy a car make the payments and when you finally get home you pick it up at the closest dealership. Sean has made a lot of money since he has been there but like I said he has not been in Bahrain much to spend it. and it is a 2 year committment.

Thanks Jim and Shane. He will probably be with the MSF group as far as i know. I am glad to have you confirm what I have gathered over the past 20 years about Bahrain since the first Gulf War. I was hoping that they would not have malls so my son would save some $$. He thought that it is a 2 year committment that he signed up for.

My son graduates A School March 18th, and I'm hoping he gets his first deployment to Hawaii.  I've always said I could be homeless in Oahu!  My wife and went there in '92, when my son Chris was only 21 months old; we left him with my mother in law.  So it would only be fitting the first time he would, if did get that deployment, would be without us!

Bill - great to hear that Conrad and Rocky are becoming a team.  Chris constantly remarks about how amazing these dogs are.  Are they both stateside now?

His last dog was getting more and more difficult to certify, and the Navy is not quite sure yet what they're going to do with him.  It's possible that he'll be discharged and if so, Chris is going to adopt him.  Chris loves his new dog because he says he's all business - he loves to work. His last dog didn't want to work, just play.  Chris may also come home this summer.  Sure will be great to see our sons, huh?

Jim-What happened to his other dog? how does he like his new one? we have a new German Shepherd puppy also. Sean cracks me up talked to him last week he was ready for some "down time" today he tells me he will be glad to be back to work at the end of the month. he is planning on coming home on leave in July for a month. He tells me that if he comes home for 30 days the flight is on him, if he only comes home for 20 days the Navy pays for it.

Shane - here he is.  His name is Cherry, a 95lb German Shepherd.

Shane - he hasn't been deployed yet but he thinks he will be soon.  It's one of those things that he can't talk about.  He has a new dog as of the first of the year.  I'll see if I can post a pic.
