Yeah, did you also see where it's homeported? Funny to come from WA State, to be on a ship named Rainier and have it's homeport be in Bremerton.

Wow Shane - Sean sure is getting around and sounds like he's also getting some great experience. I looked up the USNS Rainier. It's one of the biggest supply ships in the world. It was also named after the same guy that Mt. Rainier was named after - ironic that he's on that ship, huh?

hey Jim, finally got a email from Sean tonight, he is on the USNS Rainier somewhere in the Indian Ocean. Said that communications home right now are somewhere between poor and not at all. I guess he went right out after getting back to Bahrain and is not sure how long this mission will be. Said it has been really busy and pretty stressfull.

Hi Deneen - my son Chris is MWD (military working dogs) currently stationed in Bahrain. The best way for your daughter to get some choice of assignment is for her to do extremely well in A School. Around week four or so the Navy starts placing the MA trainees in their future assignments. In my son's class of about 50, he was one of two who got MWD. He loves being a dog handler. Others go into the MSF, mobile security force. He has friends in MSF love it equally as well. Best of luck to your daughter. After boot, it's all "easy duty". At least that's what I'm told. :-)

Chris, I really hate Graveyard probably would kill me if I had to do it anymore, I am just getting old I guess. There are lots of times I really miss working for the PD, don't miss court and shift work and dealing with all the nuts. What I am doing now I pretty much set my own hours and schedule and go where I want and pretty much range all over eastern wa.

Thanks Jim, For the news on the pinning my son. I've all backed Kris in any thing he choose to do Schooling, Sports, and him deciding to become a police officer. He went two years to college for it. He worked as a security guard at Harrah's casino in Vegas( Got a Medal for saving a man live by doing CPR on him ) while taking test for L.V. Metro PD and pass all their tests but because of a hiring freeze he got tired of waiting for his dream so he joined the U.S.Navy 8/2009 but it took him a year of being in the Naval Reserve before he got to go in the regular Navy 8/2010 ( He is loving it). I will love pinning that MAA Badge that my son he earned in his "A" School. I know he will do fine in any leadership role he is responsible for ! He never let me down when things get tuff he has alway made me Proud to be his father. He will be One of the Outstanding Master Of Arms in our Navy!!!

Hi Guys. I'm a Mom. My daughter is in boot, rated MA; she PIR's 11/24, div 902. I know nothing about the military, let alone the Navy. She is very interested in canine after A-school. Any tips I can pass on to her? Also, curious, what kind of security clearance does she need? Just read a post on N4M about FBI interviews, etc. I wonder if that includes her. Any advice that I could pass on to her would be helpful.

Chris, great story. When Sean was a little kid I used to bring him by the PD and he would sit in the car and loved to listen to all the radio traffic and like to see the lights flashing etc. I really did not expect him to go into the Law Enforcement field but was pretty proud when he did. I am no longer a "sworn" police officer but I am now a Investigator with our State Agriculture Dept. (better hours and a lot less stress)

I saw on his facebook page last night that he was in Daigo Gracia, well he wanted to see the world. Sounds like they pulled into Bahrain and took off again.

Hey Shane - yeah I hear from Chris pretty often, about once a week or so. I often ask him about Sean and he tells me he's off base (out to sea and on missions) most of the time. Those MSF guys sure move around a lot.

Chris/Elbert: if you go to the pinning you'll get to pin the badge on your sailor. I gotta tell ya, it was THE BEST day of my life! Shane is a police officer, and it was especially great for him: his son (Sean) following in his footsteps...
