Jim,
My other two boys are both in Cryptology and I have seen some photos over in that group. If you would like to see a couple of photos of what he is doing in Bahrain, send me a pm at this site and I will see what I can send you tomorrow. All three of my sons asked me not to post anything on a public site.

Hey Lowell - sounds like your sailor is doing great. Is there a way to post photos on this site, like you can on Facebook? I think I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Shane - no expeditionary training outside of what he received while in C school. We've sent him several packages and he's received them all. After the "FPO, AE 09834", the last line MUST have "MWD". Is there something similar for Sean's address?

Wow, been a while since I checked in here! My son arrived in Bahrain early in August and after a week was sent out as part of a MSS. One of his pals is in a 3-star hotel in Dubai. My son is part of a small detachment, he said that at 1 a.m. 3 days ago it was 110 degrees, windy and miserable. He has been on a boat since he left the base and hopes to get back to base some time next week. He has some good friends that he went thru boot, and all subsequent schools with and has not had any contact with them for over a month. Shane, my son did all the expeditionary training in SA, GulfPort, and SD. He got to pick his duty station after 8 or 9 days in SA. He has emailed my wife & I a few photos of his "Day Job"and all I can say is yikes, them are some big guns!

Jim: so Chris did not have to go through expenditionary traing in SD? Also have you sent him any regular mail? Sean's Sister sent some stuff to him with the address Sean sent us and it all got returned as the wrong address.

Todd - MWD (military working dogs) training is approximately another 11-12 weeks of training after A School. It's done at Lackland where MWD training is done for all 4 military branches. Once finished they are ready for their first assignment. My son tells me that the best way to get into the program (though no guarantee) is to do very well on all tests, exams, etc. That way he'll get some choice of duty.

Todd, Jim probably would be best to answer this as his son is already in the MWD program. I believe his son had an additional 6 or 8 weeks of Dog training at lackland, I don't know if he went to Gulfport and San Diago prior to heading overseas.

Jim and Shane, thanks for the information regarding the experience. It sounds like both guys are taking every opportunity afforded by the Navy.

Clemmis - as Shane described, the sailors find out very soon after starting A school the different kinds of duty that MA's can get. Chris knew within a couple of weeks that he wanted to get into the MWD program. If they do well in training, then they get some choice and usually know what they'll be doing (and often where they'll be going). I live in WA state (as does Shane) but Chris wanted his first assignment to be out of country. Shane's son and my son were in A school together and are good friends serving in Bahrain together (although in different jobs).
