well orginally he was going to go into SWCC (almost a SEAL, they are the boat crews that do the insertion and extraction of SEALS) but he did not score high enough on the written test to be accepted into that (actually it turned out for the best as I thought he should make sure he liked the Navy before embarking on special ops stuff). So he decided on the MA (actually I think it was because I am in Law Enforcement etc). but he found out about the MSF and that sort of stuff during A school. He also spent just under a year on the delayed entry program and spent most of his time hanging out with the recuriters so he was very motivated by the time he went in.

It appears the MA rate is open to train those that are enthusiastic and have done well. I am glad Sean is doing well and enjoying the ride. It it great information and thanks for sharing. Did Sean know about the various opportunities before he enlisted or during A school? Did he request the additional training during A school?

Clemmis:

Sean went to "A" school in Texas then right to Gulfport Miss for some additional training for about 4 weeks or so then to San Diago for more training another 4-6 weeks then off to Bahrain. Sean wanted to get MSF (Mobile Security Force) and asked for it. He kept telling us that he wanted to go to Bangor (sub base here in WA.) but I found out later he really asked to go to MSF (which now I really believe was the right choice for him) as he really is doing well and enjoys it alot. I think that Jim's son was along the same path only he went to "working dog" school in Texas then to Bahrain.

Shane - sounds like Sean is living the dream, huh? That must be why Chris keeps telling me he wants to go to Dubai.

Chris: when will your son head to Lackland? He's going to love A school.

Just got a phone call from my son Chris (currently serving in Bahrain). Called to tell me that, today, he "got to got to carry around a weapon, play with a dog, and get on a submarine....all while getting paid tax free money". He wasn't allowed to tell me much about the sub. Chris is 6'3" and 220lbs. He thought the sub was cool, but is very glad he's not assigned to one.
