Hey Chris, my daughter grads same day and I'm also 22 years FAA. Where are you? I'm at PIE

Chris - they start learning about the different MA duties right away. I think it's about half way through (4 or so weeks) when they find out what they'll be doing. If they do really well on exams (written and practical), then they have some choice of what they'll do, and to some extent, where they'll go. When will your son get to Lackland?

Our son's birthday was right around the time he was starting A school. We bought him a laptop for his birhtday and had it shipped to him. Although the sailors do not need to have one. They do have a safe place to keep them in their rooms.

Hey Chris:
as I recall Sean did not take a laptop with him to A school, he was able to have his Iphone. He did not get a computer until after A school and before he went to Miss for training. I think they stay pretty busy. Sean never tested well either but he did okay through school there. I would probably wait until "A" school is over then get the laptop.

Got her mailing address today, that makes me happy. Going to start writing immediately.

Shane - yes, Chris is ready to go out on missions. He told me today that he's been selected for some sort of "exchange" program with another country (not supposed to say which one). This other country will send 4 of their dog handlers to Bahrain for training, and he and 3 others will go to the other country for training. Pretty cool. From there, he'll likely do check point security in Dubai, UAE, Saudi, etc.

boy isn't that the truth. Sean has wanted to go into the Navy since he was about ten. One thing you will find that is pretty cool after they get through basic and A school is Skype. I just spent the better part of an hour talking to Sean via Skype and it's all free. Sean said they are headed up to Dubai and will be put up in a pretty fancy hotel I guess they are getting some sort of extra pay etc for this. So will Chris be going out on missions or doing base security? I know I may have asked you this already.

Thank you for the quick responses. I know from my own experience (USAF), the better you do in Basic and at A school, the more choices you have. Trying to convince the kids of that is easier said then done. My son (US Infantry) didn't really care, he knew what he wanted to do right from the beginning.

Yes, that's right. About half way through MA school the sailors are selected for their assignments - (MSF) mobil security force, MWD (military working dogs), etc. They get some choice, depending on how well they do in training. Sean is MSF and Chris is MWD and are stationed in Bahrain and got to be good friends while they were training at Lackland AFB.

I think Chris was selected for it during MA school or just before. Jim can tell you more. Sean (my son) and Chris were in the same MA class.
