Any form of Law Enforcement Is an option for our boys. I told my son to spend some time and see if he likes it. If he does then any police dept in the country is an option for him.

Frank...you're right about life after for Navy MA's. One of our Assistant Scoutmaster's is a Supervisor for Chattanooga PD and he told Conner that all he would have to do was basically "show up" and pass the civil service exam...most Police, DNR type law enforcement offices love to have these guys and gals show interest...don't forget that the FBI and CIA are possibilities as they both recruit heavily from Navy personnel.

Alan, I just got back from great lakes today my son graduated on 2/6/09 and is going to San Antonio on Wednesday for MA training. He also wanted a career in the navy that would transfer into a civilian job if he left the navy. I would think that the training they receive in A school would make them very desirable future civilian police officers. I also read about the crappy jobs & places they could end up. Good luck to your sailor.

Robert,I'm very sorry to hear about Whitney, we'll keep her in our prayer's. cgchief, I was rather relived when Josh decided to become an MA, all though I have no prior military experience so I didn't know all the crappy places they could end up. But what I've since found out these guy's are picked first among police forces for jobs with them,so even if he decides to not stick with the navy there will be a place for them if they like police work! but like you I'm so hoping they stick with it!

My worst fear when my son told me he wanted to be an MA was that he would be stuck standing 4 years of of QD watches if assigned to a ship and not actually get to do a job worthwhile.

I was pleasantly surprised by what the MA rate actually does in the Navy. Quite different than what our old collateral duty of MA used to be :)

Conner has reached the end of orientation @ Bangor and will go "on the wire" next week. He's told me his first gig will be "special"...I know what that means but I really can't say...lol

James...wait till he gets to handle a m249saw...he'll really get a "kick" out of that. There will be plenty of weaponry training for MA's...and requals every 6 months or so.

Hi, my son Andrew is now at MA school in San Antonio. I've warned him that he has to do a lot of studying!

My son is going to ma school following his pir in February, I was surprised to hear the amount of time it took Whitney to get appointments at the hospital. I am sure she will be fine. I will give my son the information on how hard the tests are, & he needs to take it seriously, thanks for the info, I have learned quite a bit on this web site especially since I never served in the military.
