ob.....They "phase up" as A school progresses....liberty....wearing civilian clothes...etc. It will be a few weeks before he has some free time to spend with you....

Hey Rob,

A couple things to keep in mind. I am not sure if you are corresponding with John right now but there will be a period of time coming up that you will not hear from him. Don't be alarmed if he does not answer any letter for a bit. When you do hear from him it will be a special day :)

I am not sure when they will start MA school. Sometimes they have to wait a week or two until the class is full. Not sure if the Holidays effect the schedule or not. I would wait a couple of weeks before visiting. They don't get a lot of free time the first couple of weeks. They start getting weekends off after a while. We were fortunate that we live in Austin and got to see her often. There is a graduation ceremony at the end. If you attend he can choose for one of you to pin on his badge.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

My son John is two weeks into boot so he has a way to go before heading to Lackland which is where I assume he is going.  He graduates 5 Dec so I am not sure if he will start A school before the holidays or not.  My wife and I are excited about the chance to head back down to Texas and get warm for the holidays if John will be able to get some time off to spend with us.

Hey everyone, My girlfriend is about to graduate from basic, but still isn't sure how long MA "A" school will last... The internet has provided answers from 40 days, to 7 weeks, to 9 weeks... What should we expect?
