Hey Jon - Devin is loving it! I will post a couple of pics of her training. She is finally working with her training dog (Boch). She is tired most of the time. She gets up around 3:30 am and starts working with the dogs around 5 and the classroom stuff after lunch. Then PT around 2:30. She said pretty much decides whether to sleep or study...lol
She bought a 2011 Chevy Pickup - King cab Texas edition. She has been wanting one for a while.
How is Joelle doing?? Last I saw she made it to Greece.
Hey Michael B... how's Devin doing with MWD training?
Hey Eric ~ Welcome to the group. Over the next few months you'll probably experience a range of emotions from missing your son to incredible pride in how he is going to mature. Boot camp is tough because of the lack of regular communication but as you've probably heard... no news is good news. Check out the PIR site on here to get information about graduation if you intend to go. Definitely make it to Sarge's Meet n Greet. I set up a group here for my daughter's division and was able to meet another dad whose daughter was in the same division. We were able to encourage one another through boot camp and they were both MAs so they went to school together so we were able to meet up at PIR and A school graduation. A school is tough and you'll get more info from some of the other dads but the key to it is to focus on the school and don't get caught up in the extracurricular activity. The closer to top of the class, the better the orders. Most of all... write letters, lots of letters to encourage your son through boot camp. Stay connected on this website and you'll get lots of valuable information.
My son enlisted thru DEP last August before his senior year of high school and was able to choose MAR due to ASVAB score. Graduated last week and reports to Great Lakes on July 8 for basic then to San Antonio. What can you guys fill me in on as far as what to expect for the next several months?
Indeed.
That's the way it works! We were all full of piss and vinegar and wanted to take on the world. Then we become parents. It is very hard to let your kids go, even though that's what we teach them to do.
My son is primed and ready to go. I think I may be living on a regimen of tums and warm milk at bedtime for the next year...
Gotcha! I had heard of Riverine, but not RivRon. Very exciting and nerve wracking I am sure.
Riverine Squadron. He trained at the ECS - Expeditionary Combat School - down in Gulfport Mississippi last month, then headed back to Virginia to team up and continue the schooling as a team. He's living in Norfolk, making the short commute to across the Elizabeth River to Portsmouth while he continues that training. RivRon is descended from the Vietnam River Rats, who would make river incursions in country during that war. Fast boats and weapons.
BZ right back atcha Ray!! That's Awesome! By the way...what is Rivron2?
Raffaele - BZ to your son on his promotion to MA2!
