Bravo Zulu to all the sailors' recent accomplishments and exploits! My son Chris was also promoted to MA2, and he's finishing up his last week in Norfolk/Portsmouth as he prepares for his next deployment, with Rivron2. I get him home for June and we're looking forward to the extended time. Norfolk we hardly knew ya! These last two years went by pretty quickly.
Hey Guys - Jon - it was a great surprise to get to see you again in S.A. for MA graduation. That was a great surprise! I am sure you made the most of your time with Joelle before she headed off to Norfolk. I look forward to updates on how she is doing!
We got to spend the weekend with Devin after graduation. She had to report back to base for a week of holding until her class started. She has has finished one week of training and is loving it. She will be there until sometime in Aug and then she should get 2 weeks liberty. After that she heads off to her base in Washington state. It is a 2,100 mile road trip up there. The plan right now is that I will be driving up there with her. She just bought a new truck this weekend. They already have a dog lined up for her to work with there.
Mike - It was great talking to you last week. I haven't been back to the base yet. I will make a special effort to say hello to Scott when I am there next! Devin unfortunately never saw him that week that she was in holding. I think that unless they are going to second training school, they get a 2 week liberty starting as soon as graduation is over. Devin got the weekend to spend with us, but had to report back that next Monday. Not sure what happens with those that are going to a second school, like PRP, that is elsewhere.
Mike - They pay for the transfer from San Antonio to the next duty station. Any additional costs have to be paid by the sailor. My brother flew my daughter home with us as a gift and we drove her to Norfolk so she didn't use the flight from S.A. to Norfolk and it's my understanding that she is reimbursed for that flight. They'll explain all the options to your son. I'll be waiting to hear what he picks for his orders.
Thanks Jon. That info helped a lot. I will wait and see where his duty station will be so I know if he will get 1 week or 2 with us before leaving again. Does the Navy pay his way home from A school or do we.
Elbert - I know what you mean. When I arrived at my first command I was supposed to report to the ship. I took a taxi from the airport to Norfolk, went to the pier and there was no ship where my ship was supposed to be. It had gone out for a work up so I ended up checking into the base for a couple weeks until it got back.
Mike - We flew down to San Antonio for graduation and thankfully my brother lives there. We stayed with him, surprised my daughter because she didn't think we were coming. After graduation, an hour after graduation she was checked out of the base and we all flew home together the next day. She had two weeks with us because she's going overseas. It was a little different for Baione because she was staying at the base for MWD training so I'm not sure how much time they had with her before she had to be back on base.
I just read my last message and it had so many spelling mistakes. They need spell check on here....LOL
Jon, I've never been there but a friend of mine told me it's beautiful there. She should really enjoy it there. I hope Scott getds stationed some place nice so I can go visit him and take a nice vacations. How soon after the day he grauates from MA "A" school will they ship him out to his first cammand? I just want to know so I can plan my trip to San Antonio better than the one to Great Lakes. They don't give you any information so I don't know how long I should plan to stay there after graduation. After PIR on Friday he shipped out at midnight. My plane back home wasn't until Sunday at 8 PM so it a lot to get an earlier flight. He'll probably come home for a week or two before going to his 1st assignment right? I hate being in the dark all the time but at least now he has his cell phone and we can text and talk to each other.
Congratulation To Your Son Raffaele and you on him making Petty Officer Second Class Master At Arms. My Son Kris took the test in March and I haven't heard if he got him Second Class Crow yet! @ Jon When my Son Kris arrive in Hawaii his first command,A MA met him at the airport to and help him settle in his new command, so I think she will be taken care of here ! Things has really changed since this old salt was in the U.S.Navy 8)
Mike - I'm guessing that she will be a part of base security. This is her first command so we're not really sure what she'll be doing. I was an AE and the MA rate was a bit different when I was in so we're learning as we go.
Jon, It's never easy to see them go but they are in the best Navy in the world so they will be safe. Hang in there buddy! I will keep her in my prayers too. What is she going to be doing in Greece?
