Welcome to the band Michael....and best of luck to your daughter in her endeavors!

Thanks Jeff. I am going to pass that on to her. I am sure it will give her extra incentive to push harder and achieve her goal. She will definitely be giving the boys a run for their money. She did that when she was in MCJROTC in high school. She may be small, but she is tough and determined. A little silly sometimes, that's a bonus :)

I believe she had firearms training last week. I am interested to hear how she did. She got a Springfield 9mm for her birthday and has been practicing. She has never fired a shotgun before, so there may be a funny story there.

The nice thing about her MA training is that it is only 2 hours from us. We will bring her stuff once she gets there. We are in Austin TX. Hopefully we will get to see her during her time off.
I actually went through Air Force basic at Lackland back in the late. 80's.

Michael, I know Jay's daughter was slated for dogs, but she did not make the final cut.  The better your daughter does she will have a better choice of duty stations just in case she does not qualify for dogs.  Tell her to challange the boys, I know Jason and Amber were in a fun competition.  She was the only female to qualify expert in pistol along with Jason and a few others.  Try to hook up with other dads with kids there, I know it was great talking with Jay during MA school.  On a side note, do not bring any of her electronics to PIR, she will contact you about a week into MA school with her address to send everything.  I would recommend the $.75 tracking with the USPS, its a big base and you want to make sure everything gets there.  We sent our son a birthday party in a box, they had a blast.

Hey Bill...Thanks

Thanks for the offer. I will definitely take you up on that. That is one of the reasons that Devin decided to go in. She decided that she wanted to be a dog handler and we discussed the military as an option and here we are. We had originally discussed her going the officer route, but when she decided to be a dog handler I supported her 100%. The Navy is great way to go anyway you do it!

To my understanding there was no guarantee of her getting the dog handling job. I have been told that the harder she studies and commits herself to training, the better her chances are of getting it.

I will definitely be there for PIR. I will be driving up with her mom to see it! I will also make sure to pass on the great advice to study hard to get the assignment she wants.

Thanks for the welcome
