Jay and Jeff, thanks for the comments and advice. I will talk to him about what you guys have said when I get a chance to talk to him. Hopefully that will be some time this week. Jay I will see if he can look Amber up and talk to her. If she gets a chance to look him up (and she is willing) his name is Daniel - he is brand new - just got to Texas on Friday. I am sure he would be interested in hearing what to expect and getting some tips on how to excel. I'm going to keep my eyes open to see who actually ends up with Honor grad. :)
Mike Hoover, see if you can round up other Dads with kids in MA schoo(son's class) and get a little friendly competition going between. That is what Jeff and I did. It help keep both of us sane.
Jeff R. we all have reason to brag and be proud. You have to remember Amber may have bested Jason academically but it was by very little. Jason also bested Amber in firearms qualifications. Right now I don't know who has the lead for Honor grad. Jeff R., you are right in that we are proud of all of the class. They have motivated each other.
Mike Hoover, welcome to the gang. I am very proud of Amber. She followed in my footsteps would be reason enough, but she had excellent reasons of her own. Tell your Father this target says the need to quit intentional sinking their own boats. I know the fun he went through( carriers, cruisers nuke mechanic) Alas all my bases and ships have been stricken from the rolls except the Big E.(soon to be) and great lakes naval traing center including RTC. Have your son look up Amber, I'm sure she will help him learn the ropes. If there is anything I can help with please let me know.
Jay, You have every right to brag up on Amber, she did a fantastic job, even though she finished in front of Jason, my wife and I could not be prouder of him and all his classmates for trying their best. You were a great outlet during our adjustment stage.
Mike, I plan on staying on this site for as long as my son is an MA. Tell you son to work hard, study, LISTEN to his instructors and become a sponge, soak up everything. Jason was trying for Honor Grad, not sure how far off he was. Tell your son to try for the top, like someone else said, they have a better choice of posting the higher up they finish.
Thank you Jay, it is a pleasure to meet you. You know it is funny, You are a Navy Vet proud son of a Marine and I am a Marine Vet proud son of a Retired Navy Sailor (Sub Sailor, Nuke man, he was). I have very GOOD things to say about the Navy - that is why I 100% support my son's decision to be a Sailor versus a Marine. It was a better fit for him. I appreciate the information - I'm looking forward to hearing from my son soon (I hope). I can only hope my son does 1/2 as well as your daughter did. I am sure you are extremely proud of Amber and you should be- heck I am - and I just learned about her in the last day or two. You should keep bragging, she has earned the right to have her dad brag her up. I also speak for others (I am sure) when I say "I greatly appreciate you sticking around after she graduates" to help us as our son's and daughters go through the MA school. Just think - 11 days and a wake up - that is not long at all. Congratulations in advance.
Jeff R., thanks for the kind words. You have been just as much a help to me.
I will still be on here after Amber finishes A School. Go MA's. Only 11 days and a wake-up hopefully till Amber comes home on leave before her next duty station.
Mike, Jay Butler here. First and foremost thank you for your service just sorry to here it was in the "misguided children". Please don't hurt me as i am a navy vet and proud son of a marine. My daughter is in the same class as Jeff R's son. As soon as she a got a good address and called me, I mailed her phone to her. Seems like she had only been there 3-5 days. No problem for her to get it. That first full weekend there, she borrowed a computer and ordered a new laptop and phone and it was delivered there. I mailed her civvies during her second week there. She finally got to wear them a week or so later. Tell your son to study hard. My daughter was #2 academically by the time orders came out. She got 2nd pick and Jeff R's got 4th pick. Oh to brag more, my daughter was the only female and one of about six to qualify expert with the M9 Pistol. Jeff R's son was one the the others to also qualify expert.
David....He should have no problems getting checked in. There is a shuttle bus available to Lackland. He should go to the USO to inquire as to scheduled pickups.
Jeff, thank you very much I appreciate the information. Congratulations on Jason's graduation and very well done on finishing 4th- that is excellent. I will keep an eye out for others joining the next couple weeks. Good luck to Jason - and please tell him "Thank you for his service. "
